for my ds. He has a dentist appointment this afternoon. He has always been deathly afraid of going and throws a fit when we make him sit in the chair. Last visit was the first real visit to get xrays and a cleaning. I think they only got part of the xrays since he jumped and ran after the first. He's already started about he's not going to the dentist this morning. I told dh he had to come home to go with us. I hope he makes it home in time. I hate having to deal with this.

I have a friend whose son did this. He is almost 12 and doesn't do that any more, but boy was it tough when he was younger!

Sorry this is happening, hope you all make it through okay! We'll be praying here!

Missy, I know this will probably reach you after the fact, but I had the same problem with my youngest. We still tease her about her first appt and she will be 11 next month. Even some of the girls are still working there and they tease her (in a good way) about it. What I did, the day before her second appt., was to pretend we were at the dentist. I put her in a chair and acted like I was the one working on her. I even found something to use like I was taking her x-ray. She realized that it was totally painless and at the next appt they asked me what happened. I told them what I did and it actually seemed crazy how simple the solution was!! The first time she had novocaine, she came out and I asked her if the needle hurt and she said "what needle?".

I hope all went well for you today!

Well, he's been on lots of trips with his sister to see how it goes. The last two visits included him. The first he refused to do anything. The next time he did good at first getting a couple of xrays before jumping out of the chair. Then, we couldn't get him to sit in the chair for his cleaning. They finally took him into the "quiet room" and I ended up holding him down the whole time. He did get his teeth cleaned, but it wasn't pretty. So, who knows about today. He carries my pocket angel coin for a little confidence, but I'm not sure much else will work. The dentist office is very cool and gives prizes for good behavior. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll do better today.

Oh Missy I hope and pray your day goes well with you and your little guy it has to be hard.
I was lucky with my little ones our dentist was wonderful and started the girls when they were one let them sit on chairs and pretend to do things with them. It was wonderful.

Missy, Kevin once nearly pulled down a ceiling to floor window blind at our first dentist.
At a different appointment the hygenist(SP?) told him if he gave her any crap she'd squirt him with the rinse thingy- and she did! He behaved each time after that, and actually wanted to go.

It was truly awful today. It was worse than our last visit. He did okay until he sat in the chair for a minute and then it happened. HE freaked. They quickly moved him to a "quiet room" and I had to sit in the chair and hold him. He screamed louder than ever and it took all I had to hold him. Dad basically stood and watched. There really wasn't much to do. He then had to wait for the dentist after the cleaning (probably 15 min). By that time his teeth were hurting and he was crying more. He saw the dentist who counted his teeth and that was about all. He went to sleep on the way home and is still asleep 4 hrs later. :( Nuff said.
