so um, I heard this is a place to talk religion? is that...right? I can't believe that a topic so set to explode into flame wars would have a board, but I was told this was it, so... here I am, being all curious.

And just in case this IS a religion board, then I should say this before I am welcomed: I 'kinda' am a lesbian. Yea. I had a talk about this with someone claiming to be from here in a topic I made on another board, and he/she/hu gave me the link to this board. I figured I'd check it out, see what happens.

    So...hi?

No, this really ISN'T the place to talk religion. We are a HOMESCHOOLING board. Do you homeschool? We welcome ALL homeschoolers. Yes, many of us here have strong religious beliefs and will express them, as it is simply a part of who we are. And we do have a sub-board for religious discussions. But others are secular homeschoolers, so we try to respect one another's differences and beliefs. What exactly are you looking for?

Don't worry! We do have some people here who don't agree with homosexuality but they do respect people who are gay. Then there are others, me included, who think it's perfectly natural. There's definitely a Christian slant at times but most of the discussion around it stays on the Christian Issues forum.

We've managed a good balance here considering the range of views. We've managed respectful discussions (nothing aproaching flame wars) on abortion, creationism vs. evolution, gay marriage, liberal vs. literal Christianity...You name it, we've talked about it.

I understand your caution but in my experience, even though many of the people here don't agree with my rather left-wing, pro-evolution views I've always felt welcomed and respected. I expect that if you give us a chance you'll feel the same.

Welcome! Now it's your turn to tell us a bit about yourself...:)

Yeah. All of us "correct" folk just ignore Dawn because we know she's backing all the left-wing conspiracies here in the U.S. And what makes it worse, she does it as a Canadian!!!

Lets see... I grew up in the south, was raised a baptist, but kinda drifted away from it when I was 16 and found I had more of an interest in girls. I'm going to college full time, hoping to get a business degree. lol everyone I'm with is an art student, so I know all about the left wing conspiracies haha. I don't have a girlfriend yet, but I'm hoping to find someone when I move onto campus. I'm also thinking of having my minor in religion, because even though I'm not a Christian anymore I still love to learn about it.

So were you homeschooled? (I was just wondering how you ended up on a homeschool forum.)

Me too. Do you have kids you homeschool or are you considering it for future kids?

If you're just interested in religious discussion then for really great and varied discussion I would definitely reccomend both Ship of Fools (a clever and riske Anglican site) and FRDB (an atheist discussion site with more biblical scholars then you can shake a scroll at).

Of course, if you're just intrigued by our community, stick around too. We'll use the time to indoctrinate you into seeing homeschooling as the only option for your kids or future kids. :D

I should note that if you feel like some of us are a little wary of you please know it's because we tend to get trolls at this time of the year who seem to think we'd be fun to stir up because of the stereotypes they hold of homeschoolers. We tend to bore them fairly quickly though.

What you don't know is that we Canadians are backing ALL the left-wing conspiracies in the US. We're working on a takeover...Trust me, in another few decade you guys will be worshipping hockey, eating a steady diet of donuts and poutine (Google it, I dare you!) and saluting the Maple Leaf every morning.

I know Jackie I am sure glad you are watching her for us. Someone needs to watch that girl. She is a hand full.
Welcome to the board, but Like Jackie said we are a homeschool board, we can talk to you about homescooling your child.
But, I don't think we can or are willing to help you find a girlfriend. Sorry, we are busy with our children and getting them through school.
Oh and by the way how did you find a homeschool board, like Beth said were you homeschool or what?

    Oh, BTW, Dawn!!!

POUTINE: C'est la cuisine Québécois avec les frites et caillé du fromage, au jus. :p

I'm already a hockey fan! Go to my web page and you'll see Phillip in his goalie gear at the street hockey tournament! (My college, Bowling Green, won the NCAA hockey championship at Lake Placid, NY when Gino Cavallini scored against Minnesota Duluth in FOUR overtimes!!!)

I wasn't homeschooled, but some of my friends were. From what I can tell it seems like a good idea, then again I don't have a lot of fond memories from elementary and middle school haha. btw sorry if I just disappeared, I'm sort of rushing about trying to get stuff in order for college.

I haven't got very good memories of high school. I have to say that my experiences and watching my mom fight with the schools for the entire length of my brothers' school careers to get them the attention they needed probably had a lot to do with why I homeschool.
