Not that I'm encouraging this, but my Dd started making little memorial effigies of her lost pets with her Sculpy clay. It seemed to really help her to move on.
We have a corner of the backyard that is strictly our pet cemetery. We make our headstones out of medium rocks. It is fun and really does help when one of our pets passes away. It is like doing something nice for them one last time.
