    Hi
I am new to homeschooling and was wondering how some of your family's keep track of what your kids do and learn during the year. do you keep everything they do? Do you just write it in a planner or journal? Do you take pictures? What works for your family and why? Also how do you organize it after the year is done?
Any comments or tips would be great!
    Joyfully
    Thanks

Hi, Heather! I just keep all the quizzes, tests, and composition assignments. I sort of throw it into a folder and sort it out at the end of the year. I make a report card and keep that, and I give an achievement test at the end of the year just because I want to, and I keep that. I try to remember to take pictures of projects (much easier to keep than bulky projects) and of field trips.

In NYS we have to do a quarterly report where we basically tell what they have covered and their progress. Every few years I go through the old work and keep a few things and toss the rest. A friend of mine makes up a binder for each child with the quarterly reports, samples and other important information (physicals, communication from the district, certificates...). They are all in sheet protectors. I want to set that up for dd, I just have to get caught up with everything else so I can get that organized ;)

For your own records, keep anything you'd like:) We've got tons of memory books with all sorts of things we did. Photos, mementos, journals, projects.

For required record keeping....check your state's requirements. It's different for each state. For Michigan, I didn't have to keep any records at all.....other states, you need to be pretty detailed.
