What do you think about posting pictures of children on blogs? I know some people feel like it's a bad thing, but I see a lot of people who do it. I can't really think of a reason why it would be bad to post pictures of children on your blogs, but maybe I'm missing why it could be a bad thing? What do you all think?

I don't think it's a bad thing, as long as there's no address or anything like that associated with it.

I have no problem with it, as I don't use their or my real name and I only have a city, state listed for address. So it would be pretty difficult to use that to track down my kids. Also I don't generally leave my kids anywhere without me so they are safe. :)

Isn't posting their pic the same thing as someone seeing their face when they are walking down the street? Just dont post a last name and addy and you should be fine.

I do post pictures of my kids on my blog and on my facebook page as well. I try not to post anything that would really give away our location. I just don't feel that the danger is that great. Much more likely that someone who sees them in person somewhere would be a danger.

    I agree!

I think a lot of it has to do with if you live in fear or not. My sister is SO fearful for her children that she won't even post her own picture on FaceBook. She won't even mention that she has children, in her profile or in her posts! I don't understand the point, really.

Talk with Brooke about it. I'm thinking her husband was in law enforcement, so she has an "insider's view" of this. I know it's been discussed; that's one reason we have a members-only section on here.

I post pictures of my kids on my blog. I agree that someone looking at your kids on your blog is the same as seeing them walk down the street. As long as you don't post your exact address, AND TELEPHONE number (because they can type in your # and get your address now) you will be fine!

But people who are good at finding children can do so with a lot less information than you think. I'm pretty sure that I've given enough out that if someone REALLY wanted to, they could find me. How many of us post the town/city where we live, then post pictures of our children in their soccer/baseball/basketball uniforms? I know there's one soccer group around me that has VERY distinct uniforms. Someone could easily see a kid dressed in that style of jersey, and find someone fairly easily if they know the general area, not even the specific town or suburb.

I post pictures of my kids, but give no personal info other than what state we live in. I never post their names either.

I always put pics of the kids on my blog, BUT... I usually get them from an "off" angle where I feel they wouldn't be recognized anywhere. I also use only their first initial, never use our last name, never say where we're going (I only talk about it after the fact), and never say where we live (only the general area).

I may be a little paranoid. But better safe than sorry.

Me too. I never show my daughter's face in a way she would be recognized.

I will say this, you can give away your location in a lot more ways than stating where you are. Subtle things give it away. If someone follows your blog long enough they can figure it out. If they really want to find you they will. All too often people lull themselves into a false sense of security and then disaster strikes. We should all be very careful.

I think posting pics is safe because the BAD guys are likely looking for easier targets then ones who are quite obviously well watched and taken care of. You know the kids who are a loud to roam the streets at all hours without supervision. The ones who are too small to go to the corner store but still do. The ones that wander out of the parents sight without the parents caring.
And if they just want to take a pic of the kids off the net. Let them I am not posting anything that will shock any one. The world is full of whackos and sickos and we just need to watch our kids as closely as possible.
