Ds 16 tried to break a record in Track last week.

When he landed it bent his foot sort of like a book it seems? . He had to have help to get up. Could not walk so he hopped around untill I came to pick him up.
He has not been able to fully support himself on it yet. This has been a week today. I took him to dr of course last week, they did x-rays and found no breaks but said he has Soft Tissue Damage ( I understand that to be a sprain)

He is able to put weight on his heel, and is trying to do so with the whole foot a little around the house but dr wanted him off it for three weeks?

Please pray that he heals properly because he loves running and it would kill him to not be able to run track.
HE was hoping to get a team in College.

    Thanks for prayers.
any advice for keepign a 16 yr old off his feet aside from fear of not running ?
    thanks again

Wow...you might want to have that evaluated by a sports medicine doc. The reason being...when we sleep or relax...our feet tend to extend down (not at 90 degree angle like when we walk)...and if they heal up a bit in that position over night, it can be excruciating to get everything stretched out and working again. A sports medicine doc might have good advice for physical therapy he can do at home while it heals to keep everything alligned, and might even recommend him wearing an ankle boot to bed to keep the foot tipped up to heal and provide support for the joint.

First week or so, it's just a matter of letting it rest, but after that, you might want to do some further investigation. Not being able to bear weight after a week...sounds like it could be serious.

I don't envy your son at all. I was playing capture the flag at night with friends when I was a teen, and stepped in an underground sprinkler hole...kinda caught my foot in there and twisted the heck out of it as I fell. I badly sprained my ankle...and it was miserable for months. I remember having problems in the morning getting it to stretch out...VERY painful. Was literally five months before it wasn't somewhat swollen at the end of the day.

There are so many structural supports in the ankle, ligaments, fascia...a bad tear could need more intervention.

If there's any way you can swing it....I'd have it looked at by a sport's clinic.

Yeah, someone in Sports Medicine would be a good idea. And I'm told that sprains are more difficult to deal with than breaks.

Smart move. I totally agree about a bad sprain being worse than a break. Fascia, muscle, ligaments and tendons...don't heal as rapidly as bone does. When all that stuff that keeps your bones articulating correctly is messed up....that's a real problem.

Well yesterday he was able to stand, surprised himself and automatically stood up from chair where he had been working to grab a drink. It is weak but not unable to support him, I think we are doing well at the present I will still call his dr and see if he has any change in dates to not bear weight on it, how long to keep on crutches, I told him just cause he thinks he is better he is not off crutches for at least four days. Till Monday.

I am due for his recheck on Monday so will update after I check in with dr. He has been trying to stop using crutches as much Sad thing is he was out for ten days for stitches in the same leg due to getting cleated by another player... he got through that okay and then had a couple weeks of really I improvement game wise batting average showed and bam! My husband is not please partly because we pay a lot to play these days and now hes on the bench untill he heals/ DS wants to get out there and run , his fav part of the game is stealing bases and sliding, ...
track will take longer as its longer time on his feet but I am believing that after this third week of rest and such that he will be up for the game. He thinks I am funny but I check out his foot every day pushing and smothing it to see where the bumps are and how small, it really does not seem like a tear is there, so that part is good.
    God is awesome!
