Have a 5 year old little boy who is a sick little puppy - he started complaining about being nauseated this afternoon - he laid down for a sleep and awoke to a fever of 102.2 F. We took him to the doctor and he has a sinus infection. His fever never really broke - went down very little but it's up there again and despite the medication, we can't seem to get it down. We may end up taking him back in. Regardless, we're in for a long sleepless night...

Noah is the type of child who looks like he would seizure if his temperature doesn't get controlled (we had fought a fever for four days a couple years ago and he was REALLY sick then).

Please pray for restored health - according to God's will for him.

    Blessings,
    Brenda

Praying for Noah. It is sooooo hard when our little ones are sick. I'd just rather be sick instead. Give him a hug (if it doesn't hurt too much 'cause of the fever).

    Blessings,

    Brenda,
You have my prayers. It isn't fun when the children are sick. My grandson's fever went so high he had a seizure one time. It is scary. May the Lord touch him and heal him.

    Tak you

We made it throught the night - no problems encountered. Noah's fever broke at some point in the night. We kept him beside the fan with as few blankets over him, combined with advil and the fever finally broke.

Thank you for covering him with prayers...

Another reuqest for the same little boy

The same little boy needs continued prayer... this time something new...

(Very) long story short, Noah ended up with a second degree burn from candle wax last Monday and has to return to the hospital on Sunday morning (tommorow) to have the old tissue debrided (I was doing daily dressing changes last week and was told to try to keep the blister intact, but another doctor drained it yesterday because it was getting infected).

Noah is not impressed with the idea of getting this done (and Dad hasn't helped any by teasing him and scaring him half to death), but on the same note, he knows it has to be done.

Please pray that God will be with Noah when this is done and that in the end, it will heal like it should.

    UPDATE

Noah saw the doctor this morning and they're not going to debride the tissue as of right now (you don't know how much of a relief and a blessing that is to him and I). They said that (as awful as it looks) it's still healthy and the tissue that was once a blister is covering the area really well. To debride the blister would only serve to expose the new skin and possibly cause more problems in the end so we're doing daily flamasene (the burn cream) dressings again. The doctor suggested leaving it open until she considered that he's a five year old who loves to play in mud puddles and it would end up dirty and in quite a mess in the long run.

God is in control and knows what will happen and is looking after the burn - Noah is extremely lucky in all of this - it could be a lot worse than it is.

    praying for Noah

Noah is in our prayers. I'm glad he was spared the debriding (is that a word?)! I think most adults would be upset about facing something like that, that would be very scarry for a five year old. I'm praying his burn will continue to heal well.
    Blessings,

As an after note to my update, you've got to hear this one.

We were at a neighbour's parents swimming today and Noah was playing a little too rough (I took the bulky dressing off and out a smaller one on it) and he managed to 'debride' some of the old skin away himself. I thought he would pass out. Anyway, I took him inside to get it cleaned up and bandage it all over again and my neighbour's mother blasted me! "Why the heck (that's not the word she used) don't you get him to the hospital?" Uh! Like we haven't been there already!!! She tried to take over and dress it the way she thought it should be done (like I don't have a clue what to do) - far be it for me to know what or how to do it!!!!!!

Anyway, when I got him home we went back to the big bulky dressing again (it seems to be better protected when it's bulky so forget the smaller one) and Noah was on his merry way again. If we manage to live through all the bumps on the road to healing it wil be a miracle  I'll be glad when this is all healed and over with. I doubt we'll ever have to deal with this kind of thing again because he commented on the way to the hosiptal this morning that if he wouldn't have been playing around the candle he wouldn't have been burnt in the first place. What a hard way to learn a lesson - I wish he didn't have to go through this but I can't change it now.

Thanks for praying (and listening to me vent)...
    Brenda

P.S. Debriding is cutting away the old tissue and in the end would have exposed the new tissue. Not a pleasant procedure by any means.

    ooops!

    Brenda,

I hope you didn't think I was correcting you concerning "debride". I just wasn't sure I could add -ing to the verb and use it as a noun! Sorry about that! (Should have just looked it up in the dictionary, but was being lazy...)

    Blessings,

    Anne

No I didn't assume you were correcting me - I actually thought about it afterwards and thought Gee, maybe some of these people don't know what that term means (I have a bad habit of using medical terminolgy because of my career and not everyone always understands me). Sorry for the assumption.

So now, we're keeping the dressings off Noah so that the area will dry up and do it's thing. In a sense it looks gross, but it also looks healthy too (I've never in all my nursing career had a patient with a burn of any kind so this is all new to me). I'm told (even though it looks yucky) that it looks healthy so I'll take their word for it (the doctor's) and trust that what they say is right. When in doubt, we'll venture back in again...

    Brenda,

My prayers are with you. I have seen so many children burned dealing with the shriners. Thank goodness Noah's isn't so bad that he will need skin graphing. My heart goes out to you and Noah I will keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery.
