Okay dear friends please send up some prayers for this upcoming school year. We have been hsing since Joyce was in 6th grade and she is now 17. She has had alot of issues with focusing and overall buckling down so midyear (school year before last) we went with K12. This was a decision she made thinking maybe if she was accountable to someone other than me she would do better. This was a definite waste of time. She was already behind by their standards and never did get caught up with her math. She just never really buckled down on anything and we never got the support we needed. Well, today I got an email from them saying they didn't have anything to offer her this year and referred her to the Adult Ed in our area. This has been a waste of our time. Personally I had wanted to go back to our regular hsing but felt she needed to have a say. Well, now we have no choice lol. I had held onto some things that will work for most subjects but math is something that I'm looking into going way back to 7th/8th Pre-algebra times. I have no way to go out and purchase anything for her at this time so I would love some prayers in regards to finding something that will work to get her caught up. I'm not concerned about her not being able to do Algebra this year because my older two passed it in HS and still had to retake it when they went on to college. Hmm, I just reallized we really need something for English also. Prayers for that too please!
Try and hit up your local goodwill stores. A lot of times I have found used school books, which you never know if you will be able to use or not! It is worth the time to find out, anyways.
I also was going to suggest Khan Academy. I know there are also other algebra sites, and I'm pretty sure you can find some pre-algebra ones too, where you can print out worksheets and they'll show you solutions.
Try Homeschool for Free, Jennifer. There are lots of free resources. I know there are free grammar worksheets from McGraw Hill under the Grammar tab (workbooks 6-12). I'm searching for some inexpensive/free things for high school use, too. It seems the high school years cost so much more!!
I knew this was a good place to start! Thank you so much for the links. Between these and the few books I had, we have a good starting point.
For free math Ray's Arithmetic http://www.freechristiancurriculum....at&keywords=recent&sortby=name&cat=Arithmetic MEP http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/projects/mep/default.htm Math with Larry http://www.mathwithlarry.com/freemathlessons/free-math-lessons.htm Or you could try pulling from full free curriculum just what you need http://www.puritans.net/curriculum/ http://www.amblesideonline.org/ http://oldfashionededucation.com/
Wow, when you gals pray, things take off lol! I'm loving what I'm finding on here and with some other help I'm going to be able to make this work. Now please pray that she stays focused lol. We won't have any littles at home during the day so it means I will have more time to actually sit down with her if need be in regards to her math. Anything else I know she can handle on her own.
