This is just so sad. http://www.ajc.com/news/news/70-charges-being-filed-against-current-former-alzh/nYbsc/ I worked at this facility about 14 years ago. It just breaks my heart that anyone would abuse the elderly, especially Alzheimer's patients, they were always my favorite patients to work with. I was shocked when I saw that a couple of people I had worked with there years ago were among those arrested. Pray for these families. Alzheimer's care is so hard an many simply can't care for their loved ones at home, due to safety risks, physical limitations, etc. I'm sure the family members are feeling guilt over thinking their loved ones were safe, then to find out about the abuse...and most will probably never know if their loved ones were among the abused, because their loved ones don't have the mental capacity to to tell them.
I am praying!!! I worked at a nursing home for a year and I had to quit because of individuals behavior, and reporting it with nothing happening. Later, that same nursing home was investigated. :/ Sad state of affairs when we treat our elderly like that.
There's some what of a 'joke' circulating on facebook about elderly being sent to prison given how well inmates are treated there by comparison to seniors homes. Given that I work in the profession I can tell you no end of horror stories and injustices done to seniors (none physical that I'm aware of) and it's challenging as someone who works inside to report it and for someone to take the accusations seriously..... it's actually one of the many reasons I walked out of the job I most recently had.
