Please be in prayer for the students in Stillwater, OK. I just saw online that a student at the junior high shot himself in the hallway this morning. So sad! I have a friend who teaches there. I'm sure she is heartbroken! The scary thing for me was when I realized that, had we not moved, dd14 would have been in that building! I don't even want to think what could have happened! I am so thankful that we decided to homeschool. The school is 8th and 9th grade, so there's a chance she might have known this boy. I'm praying that's not the case. A week ago today, a 9th grader in a local school here shot himself after school. What a tragedy! These kids are so young. It breaks my heart!
They have released the boy's name. He was a 13 year-old 8th grader. Dd14 wouldn't have known him. My friend who teaches there texted me back just now and said she is shaken up, but fine. Such a sad situation!
I have another online friend whose son attends that school. I couldn't fathom what that would do to the kiddos who saw him.
Amie, I can't either. Dd11 has a friend at church who went to school with the boy who committed suicide last week, locally. The girl was really upset during their class on Sunday morning and just hearing the story and having a connection to it had her shaken. I can't imagine having to deal with actually being there. My friend who teaches in the school said she was exhausted after today. She said she was definitely not called to be a counselor, although I'm sure that's what much of her day consisted of today. A friend of his set up a FB page for him. Most of the comments/postings are about bullying, but someone from the family posted insisting that wasn't the case. Probably no one will ever know for sure. I went to my mom's last night and she showed me an article in the paper about another boy (a high school senior) who had committed suicide on Friday evening. That's three I've heard of within a week! I felt so bad for this boy. Apparently his best friend (who was also his football teammate) was killed this summer in a car accident. The team had been taking turns wearing the boy's jersey during games this year and it was his turn to wear it on Friday. But, he found out that he was ineligible (for grades) to play and would miss his turn. So sad!
