Our oldest son, Matthew, has had Crohn's disease since he was 11 years old. He is 38 now. Almost two years ago his doctor had him swallow a capsule that has a tiny camera in it to see how his small intestines looked. (He has no large intestines left because of the Crohn's.) The short version of all this is that the camera has been stuck in him for all this time and on Tuesday another doctor tried to get the camera capsule by doing a colonoscopy and when that didn't work he tried going down his throat to get it. That didn't work either. Yesterday he started hurting really bad and ended up being sent by ambulance to a major hospital an hour away and had emergency surgery to repair a hole in his small intestines made during the colonscopy the day before. We finally got to see him this morning around 2 something and Freddy and I got home around 4:30. Our daughter in law won't leave the hospital until they release Matthew so I am waiting for her to call me back in a few minutes. Matthew is in a lot of pain this morning and as I was talking to my dil the doctors came in. Please pray for our son and his wife and our grandson. They are so special and we love them dearly. Thank you. Beth PS-The good news was that they got the camera out while repairing his intestines.
It's hard when we can't help our children, no matter what age they are. I will pray that God gives him the strength to endure the pain if it is not in His will for it to be gone, pray for wisdom for the Drs. and for your whole family.
Your son and his will be in my thoughts and ((hugs)) being sent your way. I know how painful this disease is as my nephew has had it since he was 6 months old and no longer has a large intestine either, I hope your son recovers quickly and that his pain will ease as well.
Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. Matthew had a rough night. His heart rate was too high and his breathing was too slow. They changed his pain meds and he is much improved this morning. I am going to pick up our oldest grandson at 10am and keep him here today. He is our son and dil's only child and he is missing his parents. He is eleven and doing great just needs everyone to hurry home. He wanted to stay at home last night with a family friend so he could be with his dog. Such a boy! Thanks again for your support. Beth
I prayed for him. This has touched my heart. I take my health for granted. Oh, please Lord heal this young man and renew his whole digestive tract.
Matthew is doing well tonight. I got to go see him this evening and as soon as I saw him I asked him if I could go talk to his nurse. He said okay and that he had already told her he was getting too much fluid now. I told him I could tell just from looking at him and I could see he was not breathing right. So I asked to see his nurse and we talked for a minute and she called his doctor. It took about two hours, but finally the doctor agreed to cut back on the fluids. He was so puffy from the amount they were giving him that he was starting to have trouble breathing and his arm band was getting tight. He can get up and walk some now and they let him try some Jello along with liquids. He looks like he feels better and I am so thankful. His son, Austin, even said Daddy looks better now so that made everyone feel better. Thanks for all the prayers.
I am so happy and feel so blessed. Matthew is going to get to try solid food today! I got to talk to him this morning and reminded him to take it slow until he sees if he is ready for this step. He is ready for a meatball sub he said! He is really feeling better! I am praying he can come home soon. I am so thrilled. His first time in the hospital because of the Crohn's lasted 30 days so we never know what to expect. Saying lots of prayers of thanks this morning!
Beth, Just saw this and will pray for your son. This can be so scary even when we know that the Lord is in control. Praying for peace for the whole family.
