How did I miss these books growing up? I came across a brief reference on an Amazon review for a TOTALLY different title, checked into it, and got volume 1 through paperback swap. Jeepers - forget the kids, *I* want to know how it ends. I can tell that soon, I will be trying to find vol 2, and 3, and 4,and 5. So, I'm really enjoying it. It reminds me (more than a little) of the Ranger's Apprentice series. Anyone else familiar with it?
LLoyd Alexander is one of my favorite authors. I "discovered" Prydain about 30 years ago when I took "Kiddie Lit" at Oral Roberts. We've been through the whole series with my kids; many of them we listened to on CD while traveling. Also check out "The Cat Who Wished to be a Man" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cat_Who_Wished_to_Be_a_Man He has written the Vesper Holly series, adventure books written with a very independent female character, living in the 1800's. The last book he wrote was "The Golden Dream of Carlo Chuchio". Carl read that aloud to the kids. An excellent read-aloud!!! The kids loved it, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was written right before he passed away. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/116441.The_Golden_Dream_of_Carlo_Chuchio
