For those of you who have used the program before, do you think it would work to do the whole Learning to Read program before starting any of the other subjects? I know their recommended plan is to start with Math and LTR, and then start LA halfway through LTR, and then when LTR is done, start Reading. What I was thinking is doing all of LTR, and then starting Math, LA, and Reading.

Lots of people have done Learning to Read in kindy, along with some casual math-y activities (counting, sorting, games, manipulative type stuff, or even worksheets if they want), with or without the ABC Readiness series (A-I now), and then starting I Wonder (Reading 100), LA 100, and Math 100 at the beginning of first grade (with or without Bible 100, Science 100, Social Studies 100), and it works JUST FINE!

Just wanted to say I'd love to hear how others have done this as well. We just started 300 level CLE this year and have been very happy but I will have a Kindergartener next year and have been a little confused about how to work the LTR stuff. Did anyone do any of the ABC stuff in 4k?

Thanks Lindina! I was hoping it would work ok:) For now I think she is ready for LTR, but not the rest.

Valleyfam, I bought all of their "kindergarten" books (so that's ABCD and then the ABC series, and GHI) when my daughter was 3 1/2. She really liked them, and did quite well with them. There were some things that she didn't totally understand at that point, but I think a 4 year old would handle most of it very well. Also, depending on your kid, it may only take a month or two to finish all the books, lol!

Valleyfam, we started with dgs at age 4 and he loved the ABC(GHI) series, although at that time, we didn't get to do it all with him because he was only with us part of the year. We only did a couple of pages a day with him at that time, and worked on handwriting (name, numbers to 10).

Thank you ladies! I have been considering ordering the ABC series when I order ds's next set of light units. I definitely think I will now. I would like to start dd with it in January. She just turned 4 1/2 so it sounds like from what you both said it would be a good start.

We are currently half way through our 1st grade year with CLE. We have already finished with LTR. I think you definitely could do it all on its own. A lot of the LA curriculum reinforces what they learn in LTR, so if you are going to do them separately, it would work more as a refresher, which would good too. (They definitely do cover more stuff in LA, so I would definitely still do it later on).
