So, I am trying to figure out how to have my son organize his work. He is an eighth grader and doing Sonlight, Algebra, Latin, General Science (bought the new Apologia notebook for that), IEW-ancient history lessons. One binder for everything does not seem like it would work, but a binder for every subject seems excessive. Then I was thinking a language arts binder and notebooks for the other subjects. Hmmm, any insights on this?

    Thanks!

When I was in 8th grade, I was required to have a separate binder for every subject. Yes, it seemed excessive, but I ended up filling them all, so in the end, it made more sense. (... although, being in PS 8th, it was a pain to carry all those around when my locker was on the opposite side of campus! At least with HS'ing, you can store them all in the same room.)

wow Karen I dint think about that... using binder sis great if you want ot keep the work . Personally we have used a lot of work books up to this point so binders nver occured to me execpt for co ops.
Sorry my thumbs re numb today and I do not feel like fixing my typos unles they are But, I have Science- Biology will have labs and assignments, so maybe I will use up some of the binders I have purchased in the past lol and the paper.
I have note books for him to write answers in and turn in, but binders would be good for at lest his lab information I think.
And for History reports and such too.
I would maybe purchase a little bigger binder and keep tabs for the difference subjects since you do not have to take them to different classes. Then get the tabs that allow for you to decorate the front cover and let him design his cover page for each subject?

Sometimes for history/geography we use a binder with looseleaf, because there are maps and charts and sometimes worksheets to hole-punch and put in. A lot of our stuff comes in workbooks, but for stuff that's in textbooks, we use spiral notebooks.

I have an 8th grader this year! I use file boxes. Each child has one. Each subject has a hanging file, and in each hanging file is a two pocket pronged folder. They also keep their planner in there.

My did IEW Ancient History last year! She loved it and said she couldn't wait until this year to do the medieval one!!! I loved it, too! She's doing Apologia's general science this year, too. Now I want to check out the notebook!!!!

I use one binder for all subjects and then completed papers are filed in the correct section in the filing cabinet. Each child has one drawer in the filing cabinet.

Thank you everyone for your ideas. I think I will try a hanging file folder for loose in process work and a binder for finished work. Not sure what to do once the binder gets full???
