I am such a doofus...I ordered LLATL (Learning Language Arts Through Literature) several months ago, but forgot to go back and order the student workbooks to go with!

Seems like I saw some good deals on used copies online (like under $10 a copy) back then, but as luck would have it, the cheapest deals I'm finding now are in the $17-$19 range, before shipping.) I know that's not a huge amount of money, but our budget is so tight now.

So question #1: Anyone have a copy of either that they'd like to sell cheap?

And #2: Has anyone ever done LLATL just using the teacher's edition?

I've never used this curriculum before, so I can't tell if it can be done without the workbooks. (Edited to add that I do have the readers that go with the Red 2nd grade set.)

    Thanks in advance!

Kari, it appears you need the workbooks. I guess you could make mock ups of the pages, if they are shown in your TE, but that would be a lot of work.

I was going to try this curr. this year, but decided not to.
Did you really look into it before you decided to use it? I was anxious to have something that combined so many different subjects, but in reality, this curr. doesn't do very much at all. I was very disappointed. I looked at www.homeschoolreviews.com ,and was very surprised to see so many felt the same.

I have the purple student book here that you can have. My coffee didn't kick in when I first read your post, or I'd have offered then. PM me your address.

    You guys rock!!!

Yeah, Becky, I saw those reviews. The reason I chose it is actually because it seems like a lighter approach to grammar lessons. I know that sounds dumb, but my oldest is a little weak in Language Arts as a whole (though he did well on his standardized test, I don't see that knowledge translating into his daily writing). He hated doing the more traditional grammar workbooks, and oddly enough, even though I am a freelance writer, I despise teaching grammar! Neither of my boys are avid bookworms, something that is a personal struggle for me because I was/am a total bookworm. So I really like the idea of linking literature with the grammar lessons. I am hoping it will be more fun for all of us, and that perhaps they'll absorb and retain a bit more learning it this way.

I definitely feel LLATL is weak in spelling, so each boy has a separate spelling program. DS1 also has a separate vocabulary book he works on. And we're supplementing phonics for the 7 y.o. with Click-n-Kids and a Scholastic phonics curriculum a friend loaned me. I'm also starting Writing Strands with each of them. Obviously they won't do all of that, every day, but I think the variety will be good for them. I hope so anyway.

(Can you tell that this year's goal is to get ahead in Language Arts?)
