Hello! I would like to get some informations about homeschooling: 1) Do the students have any exams like "normal" students have? 2) Do the parents have to get a licence? Do they learn how to educate? 3) Is there the same strict curriculum as in schools? I would be very happy about some answers! Thank you in advice!
1- to answer the question Do the parents have to get a licence?-Not here in Texas They do not 2-to answer this one Do the parents have to get a licence?Again Not here in Texas but you may in other states, best thing to do is search your state on the Homeschooling Laws 3-In Texas we are required to teach Reading,Grammar,Math,Spelling,Citizenship
The fomality of testing varries from state to state. Parents do not have to have a license to homeschool, just common scense and even some of the parents lack that. Curiculum is selected by parents and no its usually different in most cases, thats because "we" in general think the public school system is not teaching enough or teaching without incorporating our beliefs/religion. Yes our kids are NORMAL
ABall, I agree with you when you say "think the public school system is not teaching enough or teaching without incorporating our beliefs/religion."
Before I answer, could you give me a little information on yourself? Are you doing a research thing? Are you a parent interested in HS'ing? (And you will find that these answers will vary from place to place!)
HansWurst, I do not think your intent was to be insulting to our children, but yes, they are "normal" students and because many are so bright I would consider them "better than normal" in the educational sense of the word, especially if you are comparing them with children who attend public schools. As it has been stated already, every state has different requirements. If a parent can read, then they can teach. My sister is a public school teacher and she said that if she had children she would homeschool in a heart beat. From Kindergarten-3rd grade, children are learning to read. From 4th grade and beyond they are reading to learn. Our knowledge comes from books just the same a that of a public teacher. Something to remember is just because a teacher has a certificate that claims they are teacher worthy does not make them a good teacher. What people fail to realize is we are given permission to teach our children at home. It is legal because we do have the ability to teach. Abraham Lincoln was taught at home for many years and read his way to being a President. Dr. Carver was a great man who was self educated until he was blessed with a family who sent him to school. You see it does not take talent to be a teacher. It takes devotion, dedication and a love and desire to do what is needed to educate a child. All curriculum differs and just because one may come from the public school, it still does not make it strict. It just makes it right in the eyes of those who are ignorant to homeschooling.
Hanswurst didn't imply our kids are abnormal- he meant 'normal' as in compared to kids who go to school. Lol, is it Testy Tuesday??
LOL!!! Okay Becky, I read things through again and I guess things did get a little on the intense side. I apologize HansWurst, that is assuming you are on the up and up. But if not...  LOL! Lets just say that this is a site that has parents who love there children immensely and our ultimate goal and desire is to give them the best education they deserve. We do not take well to people who are out for their own agenda. If you are interested because you have children you want to homeschool, then welcome.
 And how many times do we 'normal' to describe something to get a better idea? I don't like it either, when people come here and post nonsense, but I didn't feel like Hanswurst was being ignorant like that. I highly suspect there's two German teens with too much time on their hands..
Strict curriculum as in the ps...ROFL ROFL I guess not because we don't focus our entire year on a flippin' TAKS test. We actually learn!!!!! It would be a GREAT benefit to you to check out http://www.hslda.org/ (at the moment it looks like they are updating their site) Then each state then has it's own group and some states have better organizations than others. I would suggest you http://google.com homeschooling (your state) Then come back when you have some questions that we can answer but...please don't put this as your first post without even introducing yourself. We are extremely nice and helpful but....you have to start some place on your own.
Here in NJ we only have 2 requirements to homeschool. 1. Must homeschool for 180 days. 2. Must teach children the history of NJ. That's it. Homeschooling can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. You can follow curriculums or Make up your own work and get printout from the internet. There are tons of resourses you can use on the web. If you feel your child isn't progressing in a certain area you can always come to these forums and someone can guide you in what to do. If you wanted to work on adding dollars and cents you could take your child to the grocery store to add up items you are buying while you go grocery shopping. It's the same thing as sitting at home at a desk and anwering questions like MOlly went grocery shopping and bought Milk for $2.69. She also bought bread for $1.19. How much money did molly spend. It's the same thing, but more fun because it is real and the kids are out and about. So you have to decide what is right for you and your kids. As for exams, yes I do give my daughter tests. I also take her on field trips, go school shopping, have her participate in Book It, and sports at the REC center. It is fun and we enjoy it! Plus I believe it is what is best for my daughter. Good Luck with your decision. Alicia
'From Kindergarten-3rd grade, children are learning to read. From 4th grade and beyond they are reading to learn." I totally like that, it says it in a nutshell! To the question on testing, that depends on your state, and or your preference. The joy of home teaching is that you can do just what the government schools ( public or union) teach or you can expand your child(ren)'s horrizons and the sky really is the limit! Many home taught children are advanced in grade levels and some are not, it depends on your child's learning abiliities and speed. Home teaching is something you can do if you have learned it. Many curriculuims come with teacher booksthat do the teaching for you even! There is also a thing called K-12 that is a charter school system of the governement schools and they will help you actually use thier books and stuff free, and meet with you to get started if that is what you are wanting. I have a friend who worked with them, she now has her kid back in public school cause it was not working for her child. I have another friend who homeschooled with the public school homeschool system and her kids also went on to public school. Both families are strong Christian families and thier children ARE doing okay, but they are exposed to so much... that we personally do not want to each our children. I mean other than reading, English, Math, Science, History/Geography, and of course Bible.
GlowAcademy I didn't read what you wrote, but I wouldn't think you would be wrong, how could it be, you are making your choices for your own reasoning.
I agree with Jackie....What is the info. for ? Is this person still here? Ohhhhh Hello, are you still here? Is this for a research paper? Sounds a lot like one.. Are you still here?
