My week has been a nightmare and I never made it to the library to browse radio dramas. I need an example of one for my co-op on Monday. iTunes has a lot, but I don't know what titles to search for.

    1. It's has to be suitable for 3-6 graders.
    2. It has to be a real radio drama, not an audio book or narration [a la War of the Worlds].
    3. I prefer that it not be religious in nature, like Adventures in Odyssey, because not all of our families are Christians.

    Ideas?

I used to listen to the old Dragnet broadcasts - and I'm pretty sure I downloaded them from iTunes. Based on real events, very clearly dramatized. I got hooked on them while living in LA - it used to crack me up how they'd (dramatically, of course) describe pursuing bad guys east or west on a specific street that I knew ran north/south. :)

Focus on the Family use to have a Radio Theater. Not all of their productions are "Christian", however. They did The Secret Garden, all the Narnia books, and another by George McDonald..."Back of the West Wind", maybe...? There's more, but those are the "non-religious" children's ones I know of.

I second Jackie's suggestion of Focus on the Family's radio theater productions. They have them of quite a few classical literary works. We listened to their version of Les Miserables and Oliver Twist earlier this year. You can get them as downloads or on CDs. I know cbd.com has them as downloads; I'm sure iTunes probably does as well. Their productions are absolutely top-notch...really excellent.

You can try http://homeschoolradioshows.com/ they have some and there is another site I can't remember right off hand that has like the classic childrens records...it might be linked from the homeschool radio show somewhere, if I remember I'll come back and add it...

Also you can find some Old Time Radio on Archive- like Burns and Allen, one of my childhood favs :)

Jackie, we've listened to all the Narnia ones and own The Hiding Place, The Screwtape Letters, Oliver Twist, and Les Miserables. I think cbd.com has Les Miserables for around $13 on CD. I'd like to get The Secret Garden and Anne of Green Gables. I think Silas Marner would be good, too.

Les Miserables was a really good way to pass the time on a long trip home. I really thought the lead voice was Patrick Stewart for a bit---- I had to check the case to see that it wasn't. LOL

Have you heard Father Gilbert? I enjoyed that one, too, but Carl and I are a bit partial to mysteries. I'd love to have the ones about Luke researching his Gospel and Acts.

I've seen those, Jackie, but I haven't listened to any. I may snag one next time we're due for a longer road trip. :)

You may not want younger children listening to them.

I just seen this so it's too late now. I wish I had seen this earlier.

For the grades you are suggesting.

Super man is awesome! (although I love dragnet too, it's a little mature I think for that young).

    Blondie is good too.

Buck Rogers, Green Hornet, Little Orphan Annie, Lassie, and Tarzan too. But, Superman is one of my kids favorites.

Go to OTRcat.com you can download at least one ep of each from there for free. I would also recommend Ripley's Believe it or not, but those are only 1 minute things.

There is a FREE OTR (Old Time Radio) homeschool curriculum out there too...let me see if I can find it...

I just played the first 45ish minutes of FOTF's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It worked.

They did a great job with the Narnia series IMO. Good choice!
