We've been very loose in what I have my dd read. She basically reads the books she likes (Little House, Spiderwick, Lightning Thief, Edge Chronicles, City of Ember, Rootabaga Stories, etc...) and I haven't required much chosen reading for her. She reads a ton, some history fiction about people of different time periods too. We get tons of library books out.

But I just know I'm going to regret not having her read certain things, classics, eclectic stuff, etc... I'm needing suggestions.

We've read Phantom Tollbooth, Little House books, some Chronicles of Narnia and 2 of the Wrinkle In Time Series. We tried Little Women but she was bored out of her skull. We've read Swiss Family Robinson as well. We;re currently reading outloud, the Hobbit.

I'm not a fan of Judy Blume or any type books that address boyfriends, sex, homosexuality and stuff like that, where I don't prefer her interests be at this time...

Faythe really likes the Redwall books.

I REALLY like Shadow Spinner, and there's always The Secret Garden, and Anne of Green Gables, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Black Beauty.

I know these are not classics but my dd's and I have read:

    FableHaven series
The 39 Clues series ( loads of History and Geography)
The Hunger Games Tri - it is violent but the context is about surviving.
The Red Pyramid - new series, 2nd book comes out soon.
The Lost Hero- same camp as Percy Jackson , new heros.
    The Perry Jackson series
    The Maximum Ride Series

Yes, we're huge Rick Riordan fans here, have all his books. Read them too. 39 clues we pick up from the library now and again. She likes those. Not sure we'll do the Hunger games but I haven't heard about Maximum Ride. I'll have to look those up. thanks!

I think we learned about it because it was part of the books to read for 5th grade Sonlight curriculum. We used that last year.
