Earlier this week, I decided to do a little rearranging of our school room. We had a little accident which resulted in both of my bookcases falling apart (too many moves)! Buying new ones wasn't in my budget, so we reinforced the top sections and painted the tops with chalkboard paint we had on hand. (The tops of the cheap do-it-yourself shelving are not painted.) I had to put some books on shelves in my kids rooms, but I got all the necessary ones back in the school area/dining room. I want to get rid of the rolling plastic thing, but it houses too much stuff for now. Ideally, I'd like a piece of old furniture that I can paint, but I have to come by great deals on stuff for those kinds of projects. We are ready to go for Monday!
How exciting. I wish I was ready to start. I still gotta kinda plan things out and organize. I'd love to be able to start on Monday too. Maybe I can if I get my act together this weekend. Right now my living room looks pretty much like your first picture...only a bookshelf didn't fall apart.
When it happened, I just walked out and left it until the next day. Once I actually got started with the clean-up, I got excited about making changes. It still took me 3 days!!
Nice! I finally got ours put back together last Saturday. I'll post pix at some point. It looks WAY different after MIL is moved out. HA HA HA!!!! Kids are loving it so far, though.
Awesome! I just had to do a lot of reinforcement work on our shelves. I still have stacks of books all over the place.
Don't try to move them Sommer! That was my mistake. I just wanted to move each one over a bit, but they weren't sturdy enough to take it. I recently saw where someone took the cheap cardboard backs off the shelves and added beadboard. They looked really good and were much sturdier. It was too late for mine. They broke in half and some pieces were damaged. My "room" is just my dining room. It is really big, because it was the family room before an addition was added. It's an awkward space, and half of the room is empty. I'd love to get a big comfy chair for reading to add in the empty space.
your space looks nice! I have two bookshelves that I talked hubby into getting me since my other two shelves were full... now I have the corner of my living room ready for school.. now just to get the girls desk ready in their room.. We have one more week until we start.
We're also starting on Monday, and I'm really excited. It's been a really busy summer, and I'm anxious to get back to a routine. I still don't have all of our curriculum, but some of it has to wait until September's Child Tax Benefit, which doesn't come until the 20th. We had to use August's to pay for Beaver/Cubs/Scout registration for all 3 kids. We'll start with what we have, at least.
