For those whose states don't officially require record-keeping (or those which do), do you keep records for your homeschool, or just depend on the occasional testing, or what? What kind of records do you keep, how often do you record, how much, etcetera? I've mostly kept my plans as records, and a sampling of written schoolwork in a binder. Just wondering what other methods might be out there.
I keep minimal grades. I keep track of my oldest's math tests, but partly because she's now in text books and not workbooks. I'm also keeping track of French, which they are doing on-line independently. The do the lessons until they feel comfortable, then take the test and record the grade. I'm keeping copies of their history tests. But that's about it. I've considered giving a grade in English for my oldest's work in "Total Language Plus", but haven't figured out just how to yet.
I keep track of what we did/planner and test. The rest....it's tough to part with but...I see myself pitching after our youngest passes that point. I always try to put it into perspective of what the ps would do....I can guarantee you that those teachers don't save all those papers for 30 kids each year. Keep the things that bring a smile to your face or make you realize how quickly they do grow.
I use a planner but I don't put a grade on daily work. I only grade the unit evaluations. I explain to Sara that it is not her grade It is mine so I know how I am doing. I think this girl would walk on fire for me.
