A shaving cream can has created rust rings on our bath tub!! Any ideas for how to remove these unsightly rings? I've tried CLR which is supposed to remove rust, and it didn't work!

Try Coke. I know it will take the rust off metal, but I don't know about countertops. It's worth a try, I think.

Bar Keepers Friend (its like Comet but in a gold can and works 100x better) works wonders!!
Just shake it on there and let it sit for 20 mins then scrub and rinse.

We have those left by the previous owners. I've been scrubbing for 3 years and although they are lighter, the stains are still there. I'm trying some of these ideas. BTW, my tub is fiberglass. Will that make a difference?

I did a google search and one suggestion I found is to gently rub the area with a pumice stone. Since I have one in the house I decided to give it a try. It works - the pumice stone picks up the rust, but the sound of the stone rubbing on the tub is horrendous... think nails on a chalk board. I had to stop!! I don't care if it works, the sound was driving me up the wall!!!

Another suggestion I've found is to pour salt on the area, and then squeeze lemon juice on the salt. I don't have lemon juice in the house, though.

I hadn't thought about Coke! I have Pepsi - maybe I'll give that a try.

Where do you purchase Bar Keeper's Friend? I haven't heard of it before.

It actually has to be Coke. Pepsi doesn't eat rust, Coke does (doesn't that make you want to drink some?). BUT....

Maybe you could use the Pepsi in lieu of lemon juice. I assume it's the acid in the lemon juice that works and Pepsi is probably fairly acidic. Then again, it may be lemon juice's whitening ability. Who knows.... But it's worth a try.

Barkeeper's friend can be purchased just about anywhere cleaning supplies are sold (Walmart, grocery store, etc).

    Victory!

After a little more googling I found the answer - toilet bowl cleaner! Yup! I poured it on the rust and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then I scrubbed the area with my toilet brush and the rust came right off!

Actressdancer - I think I will stick to drinking Pepsi. Coke seems to have some powers that I don't want in my stomach!

Coke doesn't work on things like it used to. The formula has changed, so it's not as acidic. (My dad once worked for Coke.) I tried it on my battery cables just last week, and it didn't even bubble.

    Dr. Pepper for me. ;)

Good to know about Coke. I won't bother trying it again.

I'm glad you were able to get the rust removed. Without the sound of the pumice stone. lol

I'm glad you found what works! I was going to suggest either 10X or Whink.

Glad to hear that you found something that worked....I was going to suggest a MR. Clean Magic eraser....works on everything else, never tried it on rust though.
