I am looking for a rules based spelling program that just covers the rules and doesn't need to be done for many many years. My children learn spelling through copy work and dictation but I think it would be efficient and time well spent to cover the rules of spelling. Any suggestions?

There is a member on here SeekingmyLord who has written her own, if you check her profile on here she provides a link for anyone who'd like to use it free of charge. I like her program very much, however my children don't learn well that way. It is an index card system and so you could only print the index cards you need/want, and use it however you find best.

Spelling Power (4th Edition) covers the rules...has a daily test like Sequential Spelling, but each list covers a rule and the student copies the rule for each list. Thus...they learn the rule.

If I remember correctly, Apples to Apples is more like a workbook, not something you'd give spelling tests with. They have several pages to do for each rule.

I used Bonnie Detmers (sp?) program. It is more involved though. We used it in the younger grades and we still refer to the flash cards.
