I'm looking for a unit/curriculum for safety. Just basic stuff, Stranger Danger, Stop, Drop and Roll, etc. I found a pretty nice one from the Red Cross, just wondering if there's anything better out there.
Definitely plan a field trip to your local fire & police departments. They're wonderful! Some give a goodie bag at the end that has coloring books, CD-Roms, etc. as well. http://www.smokeybear.com/ http://www.mcgruff.org/ http://www.911.state.tx.us/kidshome.html
yes, that's how I got the idea to do the unit! My little boy (2) is in love with "rescue trucks", so I was thinking a trip to the FD would be neat. Just wanted to some stuff to do before we go. Thanks for the links!
Be sure you go more than once and that you practice the safety skills throughout the year. My 2 year old likes the field trips (like any little boy would), but my 5 year old is a very confident big brother who can answer any child safety question I throw at him. I have no doubt in my mind that he can get himself and his little brother out of a burning building and that he can call 911 if ever necessary.
