My DD freaked out when she looked at samples of Horizons math today. She doesn't complain about doing the Saxon, but I don't feel it's challenging her. I have read that Saxon is a little behind and Horizons is a little ahead, so where should I start after we finish Saxon 1? My current plan is to finish Saxon 1, do the second book of Horizons 1 this summer, then start on Horizons 2. Or is there enough review at the beginning of 2 to just jump right in? I also wanted to know if I absolutely have to get to get the TM.

From my experience - don't mess with something that's working. Though it may not be challenging in your opinion - is she "getting" it?? That is HUGE in my book.

I am finding Saxon a "standard" across the board and I wish I started with it but I didn't however what we chose (LifePacs) work for my kids. I tried switching this past year and went right back to what I was doing. No sense screwing it up IMHO

I start with Horizons and switch to Saxon in Grade 4 (giving them the Saxon placement test to decide where to start them). Does Horizons have a placement test?

She is getting it, but she's bored. She doesn't like how plain the pages are. Horizons does have a placement test that I will give her when we get closer to finishing Saxon. I was hoping there was someone who had used them both and could compare them.
