My cousin's school was the Blooming Prairie Pansies. :) Cute, but no thanks!

Blooming Prairie Pansies gives me visions of the football team skipping lightly out onto the field wearing calico dresses with sunbonnets that look like giant flowers on their heads. School colors: lavender and pink. I can only imagine the fight posters decking the halls of the rivals' high schools or colleges...

They do know that pansies is a nickname for homosexuals, right? What WERE they thinking?

I'd much prefer some bird or mammal ... the Fighting Gophers, the Battling Prairiedogs, the Speedy Roadrunners! Blazing Prairie Fires!

So my Alma Mata could stick with the Highlander. Ever seen an angry man in a kilt? Fearsome beings, let me tell you.

As to the Crusaders, my collegiate Alma Mata is the Crusaders. It causes a lot of problems in the non-Christian community (the literal community of non-Christians that live in town). They find it highly offensive and arrogant. It's a mental throw-back to a time when Christians forced Muslims/others to convert on risk of death.

Now, I'm not saying this is REALLY what happened during the Crusades (that's an entirely different controversy), what I'm saying is that this is the picture of Christians that the school is promoting. Is that edifying? Is that beneficial to The Body? I don't know. I think probably not.
