LOL, we are supposed to keep attendance and when I send in my quarterly report and year end assessment, I just put "Yeah, we did the required 900 hours." I never keep track, but I figure for us homeschooling is a lifestyle. I don't mark when we go to the grocery store and ds9 learns that 100 oz for 2.00 is actually cheaper than 50 oz. for 1.50 or whatever. I just figure that we get well over 900 hours.
We're year-rounders. I do take a week at Christmas, and sometimes a week or two in the summer. BUT...we also do a 4 day school week (we have Fridays for extra activites - ones that count as schooling - i.e. library, field trips, etc). Summertime is usually lighter, though. This year will be harder on my eldest b/c she's still going to be finishing up her 2nd grade subjects (we took more time off when my FIL passed, at Christmas, and we took like 4 weeks off at the end of summer last year). I'm not going to be tough on my son whos' doing kinder - but he'll have something everyday too. I like year-round for the most part...you don't lose focus as much. And I don't feel guilty when we do take a week off b/c they do work very hard.
I am so spoiled to live in a state that doesn't require that crap! I mean, this summer when we're on vacation in Pennsylvania, do I count it a school day when we go to see King Tut? And Valley Forge, etc.? Or is it only a half-day? What if we just do math and reading for an hour each day over the summer? How do I count that? Can I count a Saturday when Rachael spends four hours refing soccer as attendance (gym)? (Yeah, I know! Preaching to the choir!)
Haha, hey Jackie I could call that a school day if we did just math and language arts! Somedays I focus them and we ignore the social and sciences, In summer school its the classes we need work on for us, its not a full day but then if they went OUT to summer school it would not be either I don't think?
You're coming to PA???? I live close to all the stuff you just mentioned! WOW!!! See...I WOULD count that...totally!
I am doing it year around 3-4 days per week of "formatted" school and the other days just whatever reading, talking about stuff etc.
