I tried pulling together my own science curriculum last year and it just didn't work for us. I really want a more structured curriculum this year. Any suggestions for a 8 year old girl and a 6 year old boy. Thanks Amy
I used Harcourt sci text (got for a steal from ebay) as my spine, then supplimented from web resources. We'll be using the same again this year (for the chapters we missed). I'm not really a big textbook fan, but I understand what you mean! Science is one of those subjects where, again, I tend to give my kids too much information at one time.
I have 2 kids the same ages and we are going with Noeo Physics 1. It uses living books and journaling, with experiments. It can be used 2 or 4 times a week. Good luck!
Noeo Science is great for the 8 year old. I used it with my older two when they were about that age and we all really enjoyed it. We loved the awesome books that it used. I tried it again last year for my 6 year old but she just wasn't ready for it so we're going to save it til next year. We're going with Lapbooks this year.

We are using Considering God's Creation, started it last year and it's a two year program for younger students so we are still finishing. We love it, it's so much fun!
I really have yet to find a science (or a social studies) I like for kids through third grade. I didn't care for CLE's 4/5th science which is still based on a textbook that is sort of "5th grade lite" with lightunits added to bring it up to 5th grade. We had a hard time going back and forth between text and workbooks. It's the only thing of theirs so far that I haven't really liked. About that time, someone gifted me with some R&S science books and I found I liked them very much! Yes, they are well suited for a "textbook type" kid, but there are hands-on project suggestions in each chapter so it could be used as a base of information for someone who prefers doing additional learning outside the textbook. There are quiz and review questions in the TE, and tests, but these could be used or not used however it works best. While I had the money, I bought the whole series from 3rd grade on up.
Now we are really enjoying R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey this year and plan on continuing with it till we run out of levels.
