A new friend of mine let me borrow her Apologia books for the elememtry ages. I really like it and so did my daughter. She liked the pictures in the books. I like how it's not workbook based. I thought these books were for older children inthe jr. high or older. I have my books for our next round of schooling but wouldn't mind buying for the her third year. My DD really likes her workbooks so we have Real Scienc4Kids. I am already taking away her workbooks for Social Studies by doing SOTW and the activity book and doing geography with lapbooking. She was like, What no workbooks!-
Yes, Apologia is nice. The books can be for many ages, the older children write more in their notebook pages and research things. Apologia is for K-12th grade. https://apologia.securesites.net/store/?zenid=9d1f6302522a9a5af91bd61b5288fffd They have several books. If you don't have the worksheet pages that go with the elementary Apologia books you can find them here: http://www.jeanniefulbright.com/Notebook.html Click on the smaller book for less writing. Also, in the front of each book there is a codeword. If you type it into the site it says you can get more pages and info for your studies. SOTW is nice...bummer we are finished with it this year.
Deena- That's too bad Maybe you can use them with the next book Another thing you might like is the yahoo group. They post several schedule ideas. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Elem_Apologia_Science/messages
I'm going with something else for dd's 6th grade science. She wasn't much interested in the other subjects. I wish Real Science 4 Kids wasn't so expensive, otherwise I'd go with that!
Real Science 4 Kids is sold on Amazon. I have it for my daugther now. It's the prechemistry one. I like buying what I can from there because I usally get the free shipping on what I buy.
But it's so much more than a couple of other ones that people are saying are good! If I had no limit on my budget, I think that's what I would get. But, if she doesn't know about it, then she'll not miss it! I think I'm leaning toward Considering God's Creation.
I'm going with Considering God's Creation this year for 6th grade and Apologia begining in 7th. I'm excited about getting into Apologia in a couple years.
DD doesn't like the small pring in the Apologia books. She's only 7 and likes the larger print. My dad is sending me his telescope. Once that and the book get here, my husband is going to do Asrtomony (sp) with her. I started to home him the enchanted learning site and a few others and he got shocked. "You want me to plan lessons for her?" I bought a binder and put a cover on it that DD liked. I am making sections to put in the binder once I get more ink. He guess he didn't relize how much goes into teaching. He didn't like the lifepac science and we are going the workbook route. We did planets already but just a little. This time she gets to look thru a telescope and do a few acitivies this time around. It is suppose to arrive next week both the telescope and book.
