Will you look at these plans and see which one is best? Thanks! Our state has no graduation requirement for HS students and the college my DS is going to has none either. So could you tell me if you think this first Science plan is OK, or if the second one would be better. If it helps, he wants to teach elementary school. Plan one: (strange order, I know) 9th - Anatomy 10th - Physical Science 11th- Biology 12th- Marine biology Plan two: 9th - Anatomy 10th- Biology 11th-Chemistry 12th-Marine biology
So you are basically trying to decide between physical science and chemistry. I think that either plan is ok. Are you 100% sure that he won't change his mind about going to that college, or even change his mind about his major? My only concern would be that there are so many changes coming in the near future with "Common Core" and "Next Generation Science Standards". I know that the universities in Louisiana have been toughening up admission standards in the last 5 years. It's just something to consider.
Well, he has been saying God wants him to be an elem. school teacher since he was 5 and he is 15. I know that could still change. So with your concern, what would you recommend? It can even be a Plan 3. He has already had Anatomy, so we can't change that.
Why do you want the Marine Biology? That is considered an "advanced" class, and ones that you don't normally take unless you are interested in "more" science. Can you just stick with Physical, Bio, and Chem? I'd say the same for Anatomy, but you said he's done with it already. He really doesn't need advanced science for what he wants to go into.
Anatomy and Marine are the only science he likes. And if he gets to pick, he would pick both of those. But if another plan would be better, then he won't pick.
Ah. And sometimes it's much easier (and wiser perhaps?) to let him have a say. Believe me, I understand!!!
if I were doing Anatomy and Marine bio I would not do a seperate biology, also I believe Chem is required?
For an elementary school teacher I think physical science is probably more important to learn than chemistry. However, I probably would do chemistry and physical science and have marine biology as an elective.
Which anatomy program? Many of them require a year of biology before you do anatomy. What area is he planning on majoring in? Most elementary ed programs that I know of require you to have a academic area major too.
Has he had any physical science yet? If so, I think I would try to talk him into doing chemistry. You can also consider doing an integrated science course.
