Hi everybody, for those of you who use Sequential Spelling, I'm using it this year for the first time. I read the instructions but was wondering if any of you would care to share how you do it? The instructions didn't seem real clear to me. Any tips would be great, thanks. Also, what ages were your kids when you went through the book? I'll have a 1st grader and 5th grader, but wasn't sure if I should have my first grader do it yet, the words seem way to hard for him. Thanks!

When we used we simply did a list a day. As we did it, if he got one wrong, we stopped immediately and had him correct it, then went on to the next word. Perhaps I did not use it right, but I never felt he really learned anything. This was for my child who could not spell to save his life. We used it his fourth grade year.

I would not use it with a first grader. I would use All About Spelling - I LOVE this program. This is what we used for 5th grade last year and it really helped my son immensely. I can also see it would be a great program for new spellers.

If your 5th grader is a poor speller and Sequential Spelling is not doing the trick, then please consider All About Spelling for him too. We will finish levels 3 and do level 4 for 5th grade this year.

I'm going to use it for the first time with my 4th grader this year. I know my friend used it with her 2nd grader last year.

I was planning on doing a list a day and correcting the words as you go along. My friends who've used it say that's what they did, too. Is that in the instructions?

for your 1st grader, I found a freebie spelling @ www.superteacherworksheets.com . I'm using the 2nd grade stuff with my son who'll be 2nd (technically he's kind of in between the two b/c we never really finished 1st - he's a young one b/c of where his birthday falls....so I don't feel bad about that one bit!)
