 It shouldn't surprise me but it still does.

Last year our province implemented some pretty detailed curriculum for sex education - far over board from what I want any of the boys to learn from an edcuator. I think the place to learn it is at home and they won't be allowed to participate in the schools idea of education for sexual health (grade eight classes will learn all about abortion, safe sex, single parenting, etc - I don't think so). Grade six students were being taught how to make oral damns!!!!!

Emphasis is placed on safe sex and two paragraphs in the entire curriculum package about astinence

That happened at my high school. But it was the weightroom rather than the auditorium. Plus we had open campus for lunch and many kids would have "quickies" during lunch hour. That was the early 90's. I can't imagine what they really are doing now...that article only reports on the kids who got busted, kwim?

We had what was eventually considered a "gang rape" incident involving oral sex last year in one of the schools in Columbus. Then the principal goofed big time by failing to call the police; the father did when his daughter got home. The principal was fired, but is fighting for her job. She also faces charges for not reporting a crime or some such thing. She claims she was just following school board policy, which supposedly reprimands teachers/principals for calling the police. Of course, the school board denies that, but there have been time and time again where people have gotten in unofficial trouble for doing just that. One involved a teacher who called 911 because a visitor went into a diabetic coma!!! (It wasn't "her" place to call...she should have notified her superior who is to make that decision  ) As far as the principal and the rape, I think she SHOULD lose her job regardless. Anyone who isn't willing to take the responsibility in a situation like that doesn't have any business being in a leadership role.

I've another post I'll see if I can link to. I guess a court (9th District?) has ruled that once a child arrives at school, parents have no rights as to what's being taught. That means they can teach whatever they want to any child, especially about sex, and the parents do NOT have to be notified, or can't even protest about it.

What Jackie???! That's crazy! Oh my, what's the world coming to?! (To quote a well-used cliche') I would pull my child out in a second if that happened! I'm so thankful to be homeschooling!!!

The GLBT (Gay Les. Bi. Trans.) group just presented to our local school board about including sexual orientation tolerance and awareness curriculum. (Hope Brenda doesn't read this cuz I want her to move here! ;) ) Homeschooling will no doubt grow in popularity once that gets implemented.

Remember Joslyn Elders who gave her speech in front of the nation? She got fired for speaking what was in the text books. If it was inapropriate for her to get up in front of the nation and say those things,it is not apropriate to teach our children. And now those children who were taught those things think it is no big deal.Everybody does it and they don't mind being called a HO or what ever the term is now days. It is sad. That is one of the reasons I decided to homeschool.
