Can anyone give me a review on the Simple Schooling curriculum? We just started homeschooling again after being in public and private schools for the last five years. DS is in eighth grade this year. So far I have been putting together my own curriculum but I have a baby due in two months so I really need something else.

    Hi Doodlemom,

I run (and write) the Simple Homeschool website and Simple Schooling curriculum. I am probably not the best person to give you an objective opinion, but if you have questions I will be more than happy to answer them.

Doodlemom, I have used the freebies if that helps I really like how it is written, there is a lot for ds to think on, we have done the earthquake as freebies and have plans to do the forensic freebies... y ou can check them out but I think you have to sign up on the web site to recieve the freebies. They are do able on the computer or you can print them up, either way!
I am planning at the moment to get the US History for ds next year.

I forgot to mention my dc is 7th grade this year. So planning the US for 8th grade history. It looks like it will work for that grade really well!

I am using the Roman history, I bought the middle ages and we are doing the Physics.
    So far I am pleased.
    Here is what I like.
    1. The writing has some humor in it and the boys don't have any trouble reading it.
    2. There are activities that I can adjust for 4th and 7th grade.
    3. It is available as a download so I do not have yet another textbook taking up space. (but is also available in a text, isn't it? so if you WANT the book....)
    4. It was available immediatly, which was nice last year when I ran out of history and we still had 5 weeks of school left.
    5. links imbedded in the text so they go right to the video or website, so the boys can be fairly independent. (we have difficulties with reading level in mainstream textbooks)
    6. The font is easy to read.
    7. The information is interesting enough that I am not bored. (this is important...I have to read this stuff too for the most part.)

Things that I am not as sure about.
    1. Because there is no textbook, it is a bit tougher for me to plan ahead. But I do like that the parent book is included, because I usually don't buy the teachers manual and then whine because I have to figure out the answers myself. (so this is just me.)
    2. I bought the wrong physics lab kit...then I put off ordering the right one so we are a bit behind. (oh wait, this is me too.)
COmom...maybe you could but a big notice in..."Don't buy the Solar kit", still the boys wouldn't let me send it back and they have had some fun with it.
    3. some typo's, not a big deal.
    4. much of the activities are writing intensive. But we skip most of these, or do them orally. so of course it is probably good that they are there for those that love to write.

So for us it is a big thumbs up. (we haven't actually gotten to middle ages yet as we are doing state history along with finishing up the Roman)

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

Coloradomom...one question, Can I put the programs on more than one computer? I use one for work and keeping my part of homeschool and DS has another computer that he does his work on.

I have used her freebies also and this year my 8th grader is doing the history curriculum. I like the way it is laid out. My son likes that it doesn't have tons of memorization of facts but teaches it in a fun manner.

Yes, you can download them 5 times from the download link (onto any computer) and then you can put them on a flash drive (or burn them to CD) and move them that way as well (in case your download links are expired).

    :)
