Wouldn't that be nice! LOL We didn't have cable until the elections really picked up the pace, last year. We have the cheapest package we could get and it isn't great in the parental control department. After the Super Bowl we are disconnecting again. I wanted to do it after the elections but Handsome would like to see the Super Bowl.:|
We were watching Bewitched the other day when a commercial came on for KY His and Hers jelly. Also, there was some other innoculous show they were watching when an ad for "the Unborn" came on.
Commercials are horrible and they slip through parental controls easily. I wonder how commercials are rated?
You know, that is one thing I did not think of. the commercials... Who in the world do they think are watching Dora the Explorer, mid-days, anyway? (Followed by commercials for senior bathtubs, Ladies period cramp reliefs, debt consolodation, and it goes on) But everything is recorded in the house, so we never watch the commercials, we skip over them, always... I hate live tv. I often say that Before having a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) Not a Tivo, but same thing... Before having a DVR we were subservient to what was on tv.... Now that we record everything, pre programmed out for three weeks in advance... the TV is MY DAWG! hahhaha! Seriously, it is Direct TV and there is a ton of programming that comes on in the middle of the night. We record tons and have libraries of educational recordings.... (We have a stand alone harddrive and record the DVR recordings onto it. We watch them when we want to..) I mean it is rare that assignment discovery is showing what I want when I want it, but I do know that one day we would like to watch the junior high version of grammar.. so we saved it and they can watch it whenever.. Oh! And many of the educational stuff that comes on over nights.. NO COMMERCIALS at all... Since they are considered "Cable in the Classrooms' allotment of Public Service Announcements... they are run like Paid Programming... NO commercials! WHoo Hooo! Also,t here is a number of movie channels, no commercials, that are part of our baisc package.... Like Turnner Classic movies, and Fox Movie Channel... Mr Smith goes to washington, etc... We love the spaggetti westerns that come on.. Ok rambling here...
TOTALLY AGREE!!! WE now have FIOS (hubby's a HDTV NUT, so we have it). THANKFULLY the guide only shows the picture in the little tiny corner and it's the channel you've been on - not scanning through...etc. (I hate the TV Guide channel for that reason - we had it in Phoenix and it drove me NUTS). I have a "safe" channel I keep it on (Food Network) when I'm looking at the guide, that way, I usually sure that the commercials in the little box won't be offensive. I feel your pain. I guess I would recommend doing exactly what you did! I do remember a time when TV Guide had their own news/weather/sports thing going on - but now it looks like they show trash from all the channels! ICK. Feeling your pain. Sorry it happened!
