First off, let me say that I know "easy" really is in the eye of the beholder so to speak. What is easy for one could be too difficult for another. Having said that, someone at co-op said that they tried Switched on Schoolhouse and it was way too easy for their child and he was so bored. I am not quite as worried because I believe her son is a bit more advanced than we are. However, after her comment, I was just curious if anyone else (who's kids are on the average level) think that SOS is too easy? We'll be doing 4th grade. I've already purchased it for next year (4th grade), so I'm not going to chuck it out the door just from other reviews, but am curious to see what others think...
I didn't think it was.... it seems "slow" sometimes which might make it seem easy - but Alexis did ok and liked Grade 4
My daughter tried one unit (4th grade science) with SOS. She hated it . She thought is was boring. Easy and boring.
I can't speak for the younger grades because I've only had experience in the upper, jr. high/high school but my kids really enjoy it! I'm not really thrilled with the upper level maths in it. Wish I had heard about Teaching Textbooks before I started SOS, but other than that, my kids love it. P.S. My kids had done Abeka previously, which in my opinion is already advanced.
just for the record the high school levels actually stand up for themselves. My ds did SOS for his last year in high school, after having done it for most of his life as LIfe Paks then two or three years out at another chirstian school with a variety of stuff, he said it was like going back to life paks, but the stuff he tested into in College is up there too.. his maths were high, his english did pretty good but his personal spelling needs work, we always struggled with this with him. but that was not SOS s fault, SOS has been called boring and hard by the kids at the school I teach Drama at. They use it as a school curriculuim. The good thing about it is you can adjust the year to meet your needs with out a bunch of worry or stress, it grades your work for you, and the kdis have mini videos to watch and links to cool web sites to help with research stuff etc. It CAN be fun, if they want it to be. IT can be hard but is kind of case sensitive in that some kids are good with ti some are not
