    Help!
I need a good high school Spanish program, Spanish I and II. It needs to have CDs or DVDs because I never took Spanish so I have no idea how to pronounce the words!
Basically it needs to do all the teaching and let me just oversee what they are doing.
Does anyone have any tried and true suggestions?
    Thank you! :)

I could be completely wrong BUT I think Alpha Omega has Spanish as an elective course (1 and 2) in their SOS (Switched On Schoolhouse). I know it's High School Level.

I'm nto sure cost, etc. I think their website is www.aop.com

We use visual link spanish. I really LOVE it. It teaches you how to read, pronounce and also the meanings of the words all at the same time. I was so excited when I went into the store and saw a baby bib printed in spanish and I knew what it said. And sometimes I can pick out some of the words that I hear people speaking in spanish.. It's FUN too.

My boys tried AO first and it was not good at all in our opinion. My dh is bilingual and he was not impressed with it at all. We used Abeka and that was good but if I had to do it over, I would go with Rosetta Stone.

Thats so funny, shows how different people get things differently. Dd is so enjoying her SOS, she has learned a lot, puts on her headphones and listens and repeats what she is supposed to. She is great at understanding what people say, and all of that but is shy to talk to someone yet... ds17 took BJU Spanish in school, he was the top of his class even with bilinqual people in the class who were straight from Mexico, there is such a differnce in the two languages.
So that is another option for you.

the Sos is good because it covers the verbs etc, the things you would learn typically in a classroom setting.
We looked at Rossetta stone and from thier sample they sent us she said she could not figure out how she would learn a sentence, only a word here and there.... it was confusing to her so we went with a product we knew how it worked.
    Sos works for us!

Oh okay, I was wondering about that. So the secondary covers Spanish I and II?
I want them to be able to read, write and speak the language by the end of the course, will they get that with Sos?
I've heard good reviews about Rosetta stone, but in all honesty the cost is more than I can spend for one subject.
Thank you all for your help. I am having such a hard time with this. I want to make sure what I get will really work for both of my high schoolers.

my ds who took the BJU class on it was able to speak fairly well, can kind of still understand it etc. He could help a stranger if they didn't know english, put it that way. We live in Engish as a second language state anyway lol.

THe Sos is good, dd said she could speak it if she had to.
    she is shy

ok just asked dd to critique it for me when asked if she is learning to speak it-- "Yes but I can't speak it for you..." grin, impish look, then "If you had someone talk to you would you understand them" Sure why not.
What is your opinion of it?
"It is boring, but I am learning"
So would you recomend this product to othe rhome school highschoolers?
    "Sure, why not."
She is shy and can translate what someone else said, I make her watch the Spanish channels sometimes, she tried to translate a whole show with the tv but it didnt work.
So she can understand simple phrases, its kind of like htat Conversational french course I took in highschool I think

the spanish 1 is jr level.

In all fairness, I should reword my response........

I should have said that AO was not a good fit for us. Learning/teaching styles influence whether or not a particular curriculum will work well with a certain student and that may not be a reflection on how good or perceived bad a particular curriculum is.

Rosetta Stone is tied for #1 lang. curric for business people, the other being Berlitz. We have Spanish 1 & 2 and we all use it. You can try it free on line to see if you like their approach. It is very different from traditional lang. curric.

Now see I can see it being for adults, it does seem that way and it probably works great for some teens, I wonder if it works better with people who have done some languages in grade school and such first? , if it wsa just at a better cost level eh?

I emailed my super duper sales rep :) to see what's up with the Secondary Spanish stuff..... See the way I read it is that Secondary says in my catalog for 7-12 and the Spanish I says 9-12

Make sense?? And that is SOOO why I like bugging the sales rep ;)

And look they email right back!!

"All three of the courses are for 7-12th graders. The order of progression is Secondary Spanish if the student hasn’t had any exposure or study in Spanish. Then Spanish I starts when they have a good understanding of the Spanish vocabulary and grammar and then Spanish II to finish. I hope that helps!"
