I am looking for a fun program to start teaching my kindergartener spanish from K-3. I have found a few online, but they are either prohibitively expensive or for use in a school setting. One of the main reasons that I want to homeschool is to give my kids a chance to learn languages, art, music and other things that the schools don't really offer much anymore. I know that starting young is the way to go. Have any of you all used a Spanish program for elementary? I would love to hear about it. Thanks!
I was going to suggest Song School Spanish from Classical Academic Press, but I just looked, and it's not there yet. They only have Latin and Greek. We used Latin and LOVED it. Keep an eye out for it or email them to see if it's coming out soon. The Latin and Greek ones are for K-3 grades. They have a Spanish for Children series, but it's for older elementary. We're using the Latin one right now, and if it's similar, I can tell you it'll expect you to already read well and know a little about verb conjugation in English.
I picked up a copy of Instant Immersion Spanish at Big Lots. It was a year old, but only $8.00 so I decided to give it a try. All three of my girls use it, but my 5 year old seems to enjoy it the most. She loves to record her voice saying the words and then listening to it. She can't do all of it yet, but has been learning a lot. You may want to see if any discount stores in your area carry older software. The savings can be huge.
CLE carries Speedy Spanish I and II. The workbooks are around $15 or a little less, but the tapes are $35--$40+ and the cd sets are around $50 each. I is marked 3rd grade and II is marked 4th.
I just picked up the Dora and Diego spanish discs from eBay for 9.50 plus shp. I'll let you know how we like it if you wish.... They also have a website if you want to check it out. The complete program is 25.00 and it's specifically set up for young children. I've heard it's well liked.
