Short question, have any of you learned a foreign language so that you could teach it to your children? or do you just set them up to do it on their own or in a class?

I speak Spanish and have for 20 years. I do use a curriculum, though.

We are going to learn French together.

I got it to learn it but SOS dint work , sql messed us up again. Dd used it, she learned quite well. Ds ad dh and dd older ds that is, can speak and relate it to us, but we two have not yet learned SPanish. I learned some Francais in Canada schools so can speak that probably well enough to follow a curric, I may have ds learn this , he always wanted to.

We did 2 years of Spanish with Learnables. I highly recommend it. It's like Rosetta Stone (without the computer) at a FRACTION of the price. We all learned together with the CD's and the picture books. Very mom-friendly.

Now my boys are learning French - for FREE. An older client of my husband's is a retired French teacher and she just missed having someone to teach. Is that God or what? I am not learning with them as they take the "private" lessons when I go to my aerobics class.

I know enough French from when I attended school to be able to teach it, but I certainly learn as we go!

It's not good for the type of learner that i am. I need some visualization and some "hands on" type learning. I understand that its alot of memorizations but on this program thats all it seems to be starting out. Didnt really seem to have any FUN stuff to do. Just memorize these words, take this short quiz, memorize some more words, take a quiz, and so on. Then there is like a story all in spanish at the end that you listen to lol

Maybe this program would work for someone else. It's got alot of information and i decided today that im going to give it more of a shot than i did last time. See if i can gain anything from it.

personally we would like something that mixes both listening and writ ing in a work book type of learning. That was the best way my high school teacher taught us.

I have a Spanish degree but forgot much of it due to lack of use. So I'm re-learning with my 6 year old! We're using a combination of resources. We started with La Clase Divertida. Now we're mostly using Elementary Spanish on Discovery Education. I heard the book Getting Started with Spanish (we also have the Latin one) is great so I just got that and downloaded all the free audio. Finally, for a workbook type, we have the Complete Book of Spanish (Grades 1-3).

We're also learning Latin and this is my first exposure to it. We're love our language studies!
