    speaking of spanish
we have in our area a homeschool mom offer a spanish class for homeschoolers in her house.

she is dividing the kids by age into different classes so starts with pre/k all the way to highschool age.

she is hiring spanish families who's been teaching spanish for sometimes.

the question is my girls are age 5 and 6 yrs.old and the lady is asking $ 30/mon.
if with a sibling it will be total of $50/mon.
should I go ahead and start them or are they too young. she said kids their age with be introduce to the basic #s and colors and reciting songs etc.

I would like to hear some advice regarding that.
    thank you

I think the younger they start to learn, the better. This is my personal opinion of course, but little ones have sponges for minds. They seem to retain much more then when they are older. Unless the class is taught in a boring, sit down fashion, I think they will enjoy it if it keeps their attention.
Now, I think the price is steep for just the basics. You can purchase DVDs that teach the basics for mush less.

I was thinking that same thing Patty. For just the basics, I wouldn't pay that much. I'd rent from the library or find fun little workbooks that teach those things. Then when they're past that stage I'd be more likely to pay some for the real classes!

I agree. It's a little pricy.what do you think I should do. One mother in our homeschool group think that kids need to listen to any new language they need to learn almost daily not only in papers. She has her son listen to German 10 min. daily.

I think I should check out what the library in our area has.

I also think when the girls are in third grade or so I should sign them up for a class.

Grab that offer, Randa. She's bringing in actual Spanish people to teach it! They will hear the language with all the nuances that only a real Spanish person can produce. That's a good price for two kids, too. Jeanne's art class, gym class, and gymnastics class are all close to that per month.

I'd love to find such a class for Jeannie. I'd sign up in a minute.

The problem with books is, what if you yourself can't speak the language? I had one of the 'Complete Books of Spanish' that I used with a Rock and learn Spanish DVD. There were some words and phrases I couldn't get just because words on a page don't let you hear how things should be said.

I wish I could think of the name right now but I think there is some pretty good computer software available that helps to teach spanish. And it seems that kids always have more fun studying if they are in front of a computer screen. I am sure you could find some good software searching on the web. Best wishes!
