I use this program for my 4th grader and I love this method of teaching spelling. But getting started with it can be a little complicated. It is NOT 'open and go'. There's a lot of teacher prep. Also, what really helped me teach SWR was when I purchased The Phonics Road for my 2nd grader for spelling. The methods for teaching spelling for both programs are basically the same. But with the Phonics Road, Mrs. Beers explains EVERY detail of how to teach the program. So, you may want to consider the Phonics Road. Hope this helps. Blessings - Carla
