Since there was a post about who has pets and there were so many of us, I thought I would go one step further and ask about what you do about bugs. A few times a year fleas try to move into our house, and it is a constant struggle here. We spray about one a week, but I am thinking it is time to just cough up the bucks for one of those droppper medicines like advantage or frontline. I think we will go with advantage, from what I have been reading about it. We will probably get it from 1800petmeds. Their prices seem very good. Anyone else deal with them?

Another "bug" problem we are having is a longer story. We had one 13 year old cat in the house. She is past her prime, lets just say. My husband brought me a kitten for mother's day:love: All she wanted to do was attak our feet, so we decided she needed a playmate (since the old lady won't play anymore). We got another kitten from a friend. The idea worked, they keep each other company and exercised:lol: Anyways, yesterday, I looked in thier sleep spot, and noticed the tell tale signs of the newest one having tapeworms. I went to the petstore and got some medicine for them. We have to dose all of them, since it is spread from fleas, which we are still battling with. Yuck! So we are thinking the medicine combined with the flea drops will help. Then I found a medicine on the same site as the drops that will dose them for all kind of worms (roundworms, tapeworms, and heartworms). It is $5 a pill, but the pills I bought from the petstore came out to 3 pills for $25. Big improvement, considering it works for all worms.

Who has dealth with this and what did you do?

We had a bad problem with fleas down in FL. When our puppy dog found us, or we found her (while walking) she was full of every worm and fleas and whatnots. The vet couldn't believe she was still living.
I washed everything with hot water and bleached everything. Gave that dog flea baths twice a week. Sprayed outside and had a collar in the vaccum (I just learned that putting a flea collar inside isn't good). Oh I hated it but after a week the fleas were gone.
Then we moved out in the woods and we did it all over again but the animals were protected, it was just the area. I am just glad that we no longer live in FL. We did have fleas when we moved into housing and learned that the people before us had fleas. Housing wouldn't do nothing for us even with me proving that my animals were protected. So again lots of cleaning and washing and spraying (which they said I couldn't) it cleared up in about two weeks. We have been pest free for over a year now. :)

Be sure to change the bag after you sweep! The eggs get into the sweeper bag, and get into the carpet that way.

Last year we had a problem with fleas with our dogs. I got the stuff you put on their backs and this helped some. We had to give them baths over and over and then one day they were gone. No fleas yet this year, knock on wood, they are the horrable. When are dogs were puppies they also had worms. they had the hicups over and over, I was told this was a sign of worms we bought some stuff from walmart and have not had a problem since.

Bio spot works just as good as frontline. Actually I think it did better!! And it's only about $10 for a 3 month supply no matter how large or small your animal is. They do have it for cats as well. So if you don't want to sink a lot of money on frontline try this. It really does do a great job. I couldn't believe how good it did and we had TICKS horriably bad as well as fleas. The ticks just fell off the dog outside and I haven't seen any fleas at all since we used it.

Angela, do you buy it at any store or do you have to go to a special place to get it?

We've always used Frontline- usually get it from the vet or order it online- although I found ordering it online didn't save me any money after shipping lol.

We have 3 dogs and a cat and never had a flea problem. All 3 dogs are outside off and on during the day but in the house with us when we are home. I've found fleas on them from time to time- strangely enough on the cat and she is the only one that never goes outside! But we've never had an infestation in the house.

We use Sentinel for heartworm. I think that also works for fleas and ticks.

We use interceptor for heartworm, this is only for 10lb and smaller. And Capstar 2-25lb for fleas, we've only had to use that once.
