I got on ebay and found some books to get for this coming up summer. I'm only doing HS during the summer and longer breaks as it was/is a battle area between DH and I. My decision to HS against his wishes was not at all a good idea, and he's right. Right now I need to focus on getting a job so we can get debt payed off and still have money to make ends meet. Right now since I lost my job in August things have been super tight. I submitted to him and put Dd back in PS. They are going to allow her to do work in various classrooms though to keep her at her level. I know it will be ok. We agreed to revisit HS in a few years. However I can do it on breaks and such and so I have begun to get things to do that. Obviously not full curriculums and not much money spent but still it will allow us to gradually transition to it and see if it will work for our family. I got a math book, some geography/history things(they are about Presidents and the states), and I got a book called Why We have elections. That I'm going to use now even w/ PS just because I feel very strongly that kids should understand why we have elections and about the voting process. I always wait for Dd to be able to go w/ me to the polls anyhow so she can see the process. I will say the first year I had to argue w/ the person handing out ballots though because "No one is allowed at the table with you" but dd was only 4 months old and she was going to vote w/ me lol. I'm excited to be gtting things and dd is excited to be starting on them since they have concepts she is anxious to learn(multiplication, division, and fractions)

Sounds like a great plan! You know, the most important part of a child's education is parental involvement, weather in public or home school. If you are on a budget, the library is really the best! Sometimes the individual books on specific topics are much more interesting than a lot of the stuff in text books.

I had to chuckle about the ballot person. Maybe it is our small town, but I took an entire CLASS of teenagers in with me to vote in 2008. It was not a busy time for the voting area, and I was able to use a booth on the very end. The kids (I think I had 8) whispered some questions and I whispered the answers back, and they watched me fill out my vote. After my name was called and my vote filed, the man in charge came over and showed the whole class the new machine for hearing/sight impaired voters. He was very nice and answered all of the kids questions, including those about the map and how districts are sectioned off. It was great, and very supportive of our homeschool group.

Have fun with the subjects you can do with your daughter!

LOTS of people who can't do homeschooling do "afterschooling". The key to the whole thing is the parental involvement.

Thanks. I agree parental involvement is key. I'm still hoping to be able to homeschool later down the road but if not I know I can still be there every step of the way same as my parents were for me. I can provide extra practice or enrichment here at home for her without going overboard and upsetting her and we can expand our reading unlimited amounts and read interesting topics still and discuss things and it will all work. I'm looking forward to Christmas break when we can do some things and this summer and fun trips are something we do anyhow places like the children's museum(so blessed to have an amazing one just an hour away and a pretty fair price and constantly changing exhibits.) Seriously if any of you are ever around Indianapolis you should check it out it's one of the top in the world for kids and you can make a day out of it and still not do everything :) We go to historical places as SO loves history and we do science things all the time at home anyhow because dd LOVES science experiments and figuring out how things work. It won't be full time homeschool but it will work for us because I'm not willing to give up my relationship over the decision because I know she will be fine still. I still plan to hang around here though because you ladies are such an inspiration and great support no matter what a parent decides to do with their kids. Thanks for all the support and help thus far.
