Sami's 5th Birthday is in October, If I don't plan it now I won't have any money to have a party. She wants Strawberry Shortcake so I'm trying to think up something fun to go with the theme.

It always seems like *ALL* her friends pick the same theme every year, and all the other kids around here seem to have jumping ballons, catered meals:shock: and some version of hot potato and one craft so I try to do something different. I can't afford jumping balloons and catering anyhow. Last year they all chose princess themes. So to be different we did a Princess Ball instead of typical party games and all the girls wore their favorite princess dresses and the danced and danced. :) This year though I can't seem to think of anything creative to go with Strawberry Shortcake? My Mom is going to make a homemade individual sized strawberry shortcake for her cake and then we are going to buy the little round sponge type cakes and put on strawberries and whipped cream for each kid. So far this is my only idea. LOL

    Any other ideas ?

I'm looking at having Jeannie's b.d. at one of those pick your own p-kin farms. You get hay rides, straw mazes, jump in the strraw, petting zoo, and I forget what else.

When Jeanne had SS as her birthday theme I ordered that kit from Birthday Express. We got a barrel of stuff and there were plenty of leftovers.

How about this shirt to make-

take a tshirt and put cardboard inside. Lay uncooked potpie bows all over it in whatever placement you like. Use spray fabric paint to spray over the pasta, either in rows of three colors, or which ever way you choose to do it.
Lift the pasta and you will get butterflies.

How about making strawberry freezer jam and homemade butter in baby food jars?

We did barbie with a barbie cake - a real barbie with her dress as the cake. I did a little ones with the kelly doll. Maybe you could find little strawberry shortcake or red haired small dolls like at the dollar store. How about a game where the girls have to identify different scents. Like lemon, blueberry, strawberry, cherry, etc....Can they name the doll that goes with the scent(lem and ada, perculiar purple pie man of porcupine peak!, raspberry tart, almond tea, cafe ole, and crepe suzette, etc.) Could they make up some names and pets to go with them? You can find some of the old cartoons on Ebay - we love them! I only have 2 of the old ones, but we watch them over and over.

Have you seen the Saturday morning SS cartoon on (think its fox)--local chanel anyway.

Get some strawberry Iron on transfers or patches and pink fabric paint to make shirts..... or little canvas tote bags or purses (they sell them cheap at Micheals or other craft stores).

Party favors can be strawberry shapped bean bags(make your self if you can sew--you can even put a pocket and make them tooth pillows), pink silly straws, SS stickers or strawberry smelly stickers, strawberry candies (with that foil that makes them look like a strawberry), make strawberry lip gloss, pink pencils.

serve with pink cups and plates and forks, serve strawberry juice (pouches or drink box)

Play pin the strawberry on the shortcake, or use the lip gloss as an activity.

Do you know about her kitty, Custard? You can go on the blues clues website (nickJr.) and print out paw prints for a treasure hunt, color them pink and use them around the house for marking secret spots for finding a treasure???

I have a recipe for strawberry pretzel jello salad if you want it. It sounds very weird but it tastes awesome! The bottom layer is crushed pretzels, sugar, and butter. Has that great salty/sweet balance, and then there's cream cheese, strawberries, and jello. All ages love it.

Sarah Grace had a Strawberry Shortcake party when she turned 4, but we just do family parties, so I don't have to plan out quite so much in the way of games, crafts, and activities. I'll try to come up with something clever, though ;) Hmmm....

Um, what about a strawberry hunt? You could make little paper mache strawberries with your own children well in advance and it would be pretty cheap. You could make brown paper bag "baskets" for each guest (part of a craft at the party could be learning how to weave brown strips of paper to put on the baskets for a basket-weave look), and then have a Strawberry Hunt. If you did each strawberry like a little pinata with a cheap ring or tootsie roll or something inside, those could be your party favors. Hey, that was fun! :)

you can also get a pan at the craft or cake store if you are good at decorating your own.

(isn't it funny that SOME of us grew up with Strawberry shortcake and now our daughters are too?) I was SS for halloween as a girl, my grandmother made the costume with the puffy hat and all.

Thanks for all the ideas :)

What's really funny is that my 5th Birthday was Strawberry Shortcake and now Sami's 5th is too. Sami wants to be SS for halloween too, She even said she want to be "the one with the puffy hat" LOL I think that one is cuter but the longsleaved shirt, blue jeans and the new hat would be much easier for me to find.

Welll on brainstorming with Sami she has settled on what she wants. A Custard Party... All focused on Strawberry Shortcakes cat.

That Birthday party ideas site has a few Cat themed parties with ideas for favors and stuff.

I even found this poster about Strawberry Shortcake and taking care of animals.
