There is a local church that does something similar, except they also get other groceries...not sure how; it ends up being like a smaller version of Angel Food where you get chicken, canned goods, etc. in addition to the produce and baked goods. It costs $8 and I think you can go twice a month. Sometimes it's hit or miss, but they get such great-quality baked goods from the grocery bakeries, that I easily get back my $8 on bread alone. One time I went and they had a huge table full of TheraFlu that Kroger had put on clearance but apparently didn't sell. Some of the expiration dates were 2 or 3 years out, and you could take as many as you wanted. I didn't want to be a pig; I limited myself to one box of each variety they had. That was well over a year ago, and we're still using some of that TheraFlu!

Our church is really big on outreach ministry and I've been meaning to talk to the pastor about setting up a bread and produce distribution like you're talking about. SO much food in this nation goes to waste, and there is such need now. Please let me know how it goes if you get something started at your church. I'd really like information on how to make it work.

Pannara also will donote their left-over bread. They would distribute it at the church Faythe use to dance at. My kids were especially fond of the bagels. Also, it was great to make home-made croutons for salad!

we don't get anything like what you said above, but I love the bread outlets, The stuff is discounted, and also they almost always have coupons for buy one get one free.... and seams if you spend a certian amount at the one I go to they throw in something free too....... I usually pick pita bread for pitta pizza........ I havn't been in a while because its next to the store where my mom works and we havn't been in a long time.

Don't know if this is true, but a friend told me yesterday that Meijer's cuts its deli meat/cheese to half price an hour before closing the deli. This is only good for the meat they have already cut.

When we were in California Albertsons did that. Depending on who was working was how the price was set. One kid that worked there would always price the ground beef at .99 lb in the evening. I would really stock up on it and and when it would start to run low I would find out when he was working again and stock pile again.

Wow. Who do you ask and what do you say? Do you just ask if they do meat price cuts during the day?

I love the almost expired bakery rack they set out. Unfortunatly its usually the sugar free pies that haven't sold. I don't really like pie. Especially store bought pie. *shudders*
