Does anyone have any ideas for a homeschool student organizer? All the journals one can get at wally world (if they aren't too dangerous;) ) and other places, are for ps students...what with lists and times of classes and just don't work for us.

I have tried making my own form...but it is a pain to print out and I also want to fit it on one page and that has been a problem.

It is for an 8th grader. He really needs to have the whole week lined out as one of our main thrusts this year is getting him to figure out his time.
We kind of started this summer and let us just say, we haven't been posting a lot of successes in this area.

    any ideas?

Check out donnayoung.org I know they have all kinds of organizer pages you can print off. I'm sure you'll find something there!

There is something called the Homeschoolers Journal . I don't think this is the only place you can buy it (I'd never heard of them), I think CBD and a few others carry it.

My friend uses this EVERY year for her kids, I'm a non-conformist so I make my own thing. LOL :)

But it's non-timed blocks, lots of space, etc.

    Ditto.

I can't figure out how to post my pages that we use....when I figure it out I'll post it.

I have all the curricula listed on the left, days of the week across the top, and then I have a spot for them to put whatever extra books, videos or DVDs, etc. they've done.

It's what works for US. I found that designing my own planner was the way to go this year.

I am going to print out the pages, and add an attendence tracking sheet that THEY can check off on the days they do schoolwork. I'm going to take my books to Staples and have them spiral bound them to make life easier.

    :)

Yes, you can print off one. BUT, by the time you pay for the ink and paper, would it be cheaper to actually buy one? I don't know; that's something each person needs to decide.

Well I'm pretty sure it isn't going to take me $13 or $15 or $20 to print a planner, laminate the front and back covers and bind it with my comb binding machine... at most it will cost $5.

I found a decent one at a teacher supply store for $8. My printer would cost me way more than that to print 200 pages. Plus, I figure $8 is a small price to pay to not have do bother. Then again, I tend to be lazy, so...

I have been through this. My kids used one a couple years ago put out by Stephen Covey. I loved it - it had room for spelling words each week, little puzzles each week, room for daily stuff. But, it was on a standard school year (which we don't do). Plus, I couldn't find it the next year, anyway.

I'm going to look at all those links, but what we're doing right now....is a print a weekly calendar from google calendar. It has each day of the week (including weekends), and it has pace by the hour. What I do is entire (online) any all day events (like birthdays) or appointments that effect us all. Then I print copies for the kids, and they write in their daily plans.

I guess I tend to forget that other printers aren't as cheap for ink. I can get mine in generic form for less than $2 a cartridge... my printer holds 4 so it's $8 for a set (I buy in bulk and it acutally ends up being like $1.75 each), a set of 4 on averages lasts me through 2 reams of paper (1,000) pages at the minimum. I buy my paper when it's on a really killer deal.. usually from staples. Last timeI bought, I got 2 cases (10 reams each) for $25. after rebate (they were buy one get one free), so that was $1.25 for each 500 sheets. I can print 1000 pages for $10.50. A comb for my binding machine is just pennies because I buy in bulk online and also laminating pages are $20 for 100 at Sams, so they end up being 20 cents each. A 200 page planner (mine has NEVER been that big.. maybe 75 at most?) but for sake of keeping it simple.. $2 for each page, .40 for the 2 laminated pages, and about .25 for a comb binder (or even a paper folder with those brad things in it which is what we used before the comb binder) is less than $3 and less than an hour of my time.. which it would take me more than an hour to go to a store since we are 20 minutes from Walmart, 30 minutes from Staples and 45 minutes from Sams or Target or pretty much any other store than Walmart or Staples, so at a minimum I would be traveling for 40 minutes... it would cost me more in gas for my truck each way just to Walmart than it would be to print the planner myself. (Gas for me to Walmart at $2.50 a gallon, which is low balling it, in my truck that gets 12mpg highway, 9mpg [horrible I know... but I LOVE my truck and pay the price..lol] it takes about $5 each way just to go to Walmart.

Sorry, I like playing with numbers like that.

But yeah, there are other places than donnayoung.org to get planner pages.

    http://highland.hitcho.com.au/Forms.htm
    http://www.pahomeschool.com/weeklylogwp.pdf
    http://www.oklahomahomeschool.com/forms.html#okhsforms
http://www.eduplace.com/graphicorganizer/ (for extra pages to put in, think how great some of these would be laminated to be used over and over!)

    http://www.angelfire.com/or/mtdewbydo/plannersplus.html
    http://www.printabledirect.com/

And I'm sure there are tons more :)

ETA.. to buy my ink at Staples, they only carry name brand, it's $36 for the black and $28 for each of the 3 colors... YIKES

    No kidding!

My ink can't be refilled (stupid flippin Canon): it's $25 for black and $35 for color. I've yet to find a generic. And I'm lucky to run out of a single ream of paper before I run out of ink.

    Ok.. had to look..lol

Mine is a MFC-440CN, they no longer make this model.

It is similar in features to this one: http://www.brother-usa.com/mfc/modeldetail.aspx?PRODUCTID=MFCJ630W

Here is ink for that one on ebay.. again it's less than $2 a cartridge! http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=lc-61&_sacat=See-All-Categories

I would love to have this one because it has duplex printing, mine doesn't.. http://www.brother-usa.com/mfc/ModelDetail.aspx?ProductID=MFC6890cdw

and ink for that one is still about $2 each on ebay: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=lc...-61&_osacat=0&bkBtn=&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313

I use the Homeschoolers Journal and love it. I know there is one for highschoolers also. You can get them at Rainbow Resources also. It could easily be used by a student instead of a parent.
