My oven broke! The stovetop burners still work, but when you turn the oven on, nothing happens. I was up all night the other night, trying to fix it. I've come to the conclusion that it's one of the igniters. Depending on the igniter, it would cost up to $100, just for the part. That's not counting the fee for having someone come look at it, and labor if we can't fix it ourselves.
We were already planning to replace the oven. I've decided that I don't want to spend $200 or more to fix the stupid thing, since we were already going to replace it.
So, I'm going without. I'm going to do without the oven until we can save up the money to buy a new one. We have 2 roasters, a crockpot, deep fryer, microwave, the stovetop burners, grills, hot sandwich maker, & waffle iron. So the only thing we really can't make is pizza, and possibly bread. I should be able to use the roasters to do bread & plan on trying that this weekend. I should be able to make pretty much everything else without the use of the oven.
It's just so frustrating. We have enough to deal with right now without having large appliances break.

Everything will work fine, you can make bread in the crockpot, just google it. You can grill pizza.

Thanks for those recipes. I'll have to try them out.
I use the roasters in winter as a place for the bread doagh to rise without getting hit by the drafts from the windows. I knew you were supposed to be able to cook bread in them too, I just haven't done it yet.
The grilled pizza sounds good. The kids love making personal pizzas & dh loves grilling, so it should be something we'll all enjoy doing.
As much as it irritates me that the oven is broken, I really think I'm going to enjoy this. I love cooking & trying new things in the kitchen. I'm always coming up with my own recipes & trying new ways to make things. This just gives me a reason to do it for an extended period of time. Some of dh & the kids' fave meals are things I've come up with when in a creative mood. So, maybe we'll get some new faves from this.

PS: you'll love that you have a reason now to get the new oven. I didn't want a flat top but now its ok. Still a bugger to clean and people said it wouldn't be........

I definitely am looking forward to picking out a new oven. I have to keep reminding myself, though, that I'm not supposed to go overboard. I can't help drooling over the pretty double oven (lower oven is convection) with stainless steel finish, but it might take awile to save up $1700. So, we probably won't get that one.
