I hated all of them but art and history. I only liked history because my history teacher was such a hottie. All the girls wanted to be in his class.
I hated chemistry because the teacher was very hard to follow. I managed decent grades but when I got to college, I found I didn't know beans about chemistry. I wasn't crazy about math, but managed. Actually, Band was what made all of school tolerable for me.
In school I hated math with a passion! Many nights I would sit and cry at my homework. My dad wasn't very good at helping me (he'd get frustrated) and my mom wasn't very good herself. At one point, my mom tried to move me out of a class I was practically failing (D-) but the teacher refused to move me saying I was a joy in the classroom and one of the only ones who took his class seriously. (Oh yes and the principal also refused to move me). I got soooo behind and all through high school I never recovered. The good thing about homeschool is now I can learn it, too! And I have. We are on algebra 1 with my oldest and I cannot tell you how much I am learning! One thing I learned as a result of teaching my own is the relationship between multiplying and division. I had no idea how SIMPLE that is! 5 X 3=15 15 divided by 3=5 OMG! I was never taught that! When division came along I felt like it was this enormous weight on my brain. I was overwhelmed because I did not know the 'secret'. Once I learned that while teaching my kids, oh man! I felt like I could do anything! Now I'm a math brain!!! YAY!!!
I really disliked highschool Geography I had teacher who started talking in a monotone and continued to the end of the 72 minute class. I actually fell asleep once Yikes that was embarrassing. However I try to include these things in a more interesting way. A lot of what I was taught was dates, places, and rote memorization. Not how I learn. So I try to look at my kids learning styles and engage them by making the material more relevant to them personally. And ok maybe they won't know all the dates but unless they are going to be working in that field for careers I am ok with that
Me too. Hated science & hate teaching it. I also disliked history because it was dry just memorizing dates. Right now we just read for history & I don't test them. I just want them to know what happened in the past without getting hung up on the years too much. I am much more interested in the past now than I ever was in school!
