I don't know why but this is the hardest thing for us. I love getting portraits of my kids. I don't mind the cost either. But, it is almost impossible it seems to get the right outfits (that match) and keep everyone well enough to get portraits taken. And, I'm just talking about my two kids and not even my dh and I too. Is this just us or are most families like this? I hope that the pictures are good. I like to have Fall and Spring portraits for our school stuff. I usually take them because it was just too hard before. I love mine but I always have to take them outside to get good light. Anyway, hope the day goes well.
I just had portraits made of my boys about a month ago. They turned out so great! :-D It was the first ones I had made for about 4 years. They have grown up so much since then. They absolutely hate having pictures taken, even snapshots. I hadn't pushed the issue, but I'm so happy that I finally did. :-D There was one pose that was identical to one that was taken when they were 5 and 8 (that picture is my favorite one of them). I'm planning to frame them side by side in the same frame. So fun to see how they have grown up. The last time we had a family picture taken was when my 13 yo was 9 months old!
4 kids are hard to do at one time, we try to get enough for our large family, so we just go to Wal-Mart. The last time we went they did a terrible job! But for $6, we will just do it over next year.
I'm a photo fanatic! (You can tell by my avatar!) Photography is a hobby (in my "spare time"...like I have much of that!) and I'm constantly taking pictures. I quit going to professional photographers (or even Wal-Mart, Sears, etc.). I can usually get my kids to look much more natural than they can. And I can do it MUCH cheaper! Plus, nowadays (is that one word? :-? ) with digital photography and computers, you can make some really professional stuff all by yourself. There's a couple of websites I use to print my stuff, or I just run them to the one-hour photo.
Yep, I like photography too. I love taking photos of my own kids and have several nice cameras. I just don't have good enough lighting to do inside portraits. I do pretty good with outside ones though. It is much cheaper!
I worked as a childrens photographer for over 9 yrs at Lifetouch. Then I did a couple yrs of weddings. I still do portraits every now and then when friends and family ask, but with my schedule it is pretty hard. I dont have enough walls in my house to display all the pictures that I want to!! I have contracted out a photographer friend that comes to our homeschool co-op to do school pictures and then because of what I did for a living I have many friends still in the business and I can usually find someone to come to my home. That works out really well especially with 7 children. (almost 8) In fact with the baby that is due any day now, I already had a friend ask if she can do my newborn pictures - she needs some newborn shots for her portfolio. Then I get free pictures!!!
We got family pictures taken a few months ago at a nearby family owned shop. They were pricey to say the least, and they turned out horrible. Our skin was the pink color of cheap hotdogs, with a barely visible tint of green. The photographer took the acne off Kevin's forehead in the computer program they used, and you can see the eraser marks. I wanted to take them back and stop payment on the check, but Dean said not to. I wanted him to go with me, but he just said they're not so bad. Yeah, if you wanted an illustration of what seasickness looks like.
Oh, that's bad Bekcy. I would have taken them back! We had ours done with Olan Mills and they show you the portraits on the computer before you buy. I thought they were all great. So, I spent a small fortune. I even got one of the canvas portraits of them together. I guess since we don't do this as often anymore then I can spend a little more per visit, right, huh?
We saw ours on the computer too, and they were fine. When we picked them up that's when we saw how terrible they looked.
OH NO! Hope ours are okay. I think Olan Mills stands behind the quality of their work though. I have always had good luck with them so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
