You're right that Chalkdust is not interactive but if you need/want to discuss a problem with the professor, you can contact him via phone or email and he will return your call/email within a day (maybe 2...can't remember). At this point, I plan to be the interactive part as I'd like to re-learn Algebra, etc. I did it in high school thru AP Calc but I don't remember much. I learned it, passed the tests, and dumped the knowledge. Since I have 3 kids, figure I better brush up on it :)

So far, I'm pleased but we haven't tried TT. I have a friend using the younger grades TT and she loves it and so do both of her boys. Another friend used TT Pre-Algebra last year with her oldest and has moved onto www.askdrcallahan.com DVDs with Jacobs Algebra as the text. Her daughter just didn't like TT enough to continue through High School math with it.

There are so many options to consider. I researched and reviewed, etc for a year or more.

Yeah, options are good and all, until your head starts swimming. LOL!

Now there's a suggestion! I am like your friend, I loved the lower grades but pre-algebra is only so-so if you ask me. I mean, he doesn't really complain and he understands everything but, you know - I'm always looking for options - maybe if it ain't broke...

But I will check out Jacob's. I hear good things about it.

Just fyi - TT isn't interactive after 7th grade - starting in pre-algebra the cd's no longer check the work or have the grade book. All the problems are still worked and the lesson is on there, but the interactive parts are gone

Yeah, we are doing pre-algebra and that is one of the things I don't like about it. I even called them to ask why they ar different and they said checking answers for algebra was just too difficult on the computer. I can see that.

TT is behind a year plus

We just switched to home school and got teaching textbook pre algebra. My daughter is in 7th grade. The book is at least 2 years behind regular school. My daughter was taking pre-algebra the first semester (changed in January to Home school). We got TT thinking it would be really good, come to find out it doesn't really cover anything beyond basic math until around page 200. the first 200 pages were place value (put the commas in on the problem 2343453456). In my opinion as well as my wife, coming from public school to TT, we returned the book after two days. Waiting to see if Chalkdust is any better. Your experience may be different, but when my 8 year old can do all of the problems fairly well, it makes me wonder what grade it is actually teaching to.
