    Lorna:
Thanks alot for asking, we sure could use alot of prayers here.
He is home, on lots of meds. yet. The swollening has gone down some but not all the way. He started P.T. on Thursday this week did it for two days this week, did great and will do it again next week for three days. But, once he started P.T. the knee just started leaking out of the draining thing they left in, called the doctor and he said that is normal because he is using the knee. I hope and pray he is right I have a hard time, believe them right now. We have gone through the ringer for just a minor knee surgery that ended up almost losing his life over it. It's been along haul and they say we still have along haul.
My patient are very thin and running out.
Thanks alot for asking. and caring.

    Cognitive skills

Do any of you have any ideas on books to improve cognitive skills and ideas for things to help teach visually?
We got our results and they are not so good. I guess just comfirmed all I already knew. We need $8,150 to get the help she needs so they say. That is 24 weeks only too.
Don't have it even if we cut out everything in life and pool the funds together. So I guess we need prayer very much right now. Husband is talking about trying to get a second job but it still would take a long time to save that kind of money.
    Thanks,
Stressed (Oh, I forgot my name, Lorna)

What "help" do they say that Ansley needs? Whatever it is, I'm sorry that it's so costly.

Have you tried any of the books from Critical Thinking Co.? I haven't tried any, but when looking through my catalog, it seems they have alot of visual, spacial, logic type books. Don't know if any of that would help or not.

    Keep us posted,

    testing

She is way behind in reading, spelling, blending, deletions, phonics. We have spent loads of time over the years on these areas.
She has long term memory problems. No short term acutally it was over a year advanced. It is actually hard to explain it all with you seeing the paper work.
She is a visual learner only. She is very verbal and can do oral reports with ease. It is hard for her to put things on paper or read them. They called it a processing disorder.

    testing

It is all really weird because to meet Ansley you would tell she is very smart and very normal in all ways.

Lorna: Well theres been alot put on your shoulders all at once, and it's alot what you need to do is think it out for awhile and find out what is best for you and your family.
Lorna, I grow up with the same problem that Ansley did I am so glad both of my girls take after there daddy and don't have the problem. I can do oral reports, hand ons so much better then books. I have always been one of those people show me then I can do it next time, don't make me read anything because it wouldn't stick to me.
With alot patient and time it does get easier. I have gotten alot better with patient time and little extra help. I know they wanted alot of money back then to help me. But, my parents couldn't afford it with 11 kids under there roof. So, I did alot of one on one with teacher and alot of oral which is what they worked out for me. And it work. And with you home schooling it should be easier for her. Let her do oral reports what does it hurt. Hang in there we are keeping you and your family in our prayers and thoughts.

    Critical Thinking

I've been using Critical Thinking books for several months and LOVE them! My kids think they are like puzzles and don't realize that they are actually learning in the process. You can download some samples on their website, or I found a couple of books at a used store. But you can get a book "bundle" new for a couple hundred dollars.

In fact, a friend of mine signed up to be a consultant for them just to get the discount on books. For $99 (this was last year) she got over $400 in books and a discount.

    Just an idea to help.

    Our prayers are with you!

Does she also need visual for math? I'll sound like a broken record (sorry if anyone is tired of this  ), but we love Math-U-See. It changed our lives here. It is mainly visual to begin with, but the child uses several styles of learning for each problem (build it, say it, write it, ect.) You really shouldn't avoid the learning styles that she is having trouble with. Incorporating them will make those areas stronger.

    math u see

I have gotten the cd on math u see and looked at it. It looks good but I don't know where to start. It said to go back a couple of grade levels. I don't really like that idea since we are already 1 grade behind in math due to her trouble. What do you think?
She will be in 7th next year but should do 6th grade math.

Is there a placement test she can take? I'd hate for you to start her and then find out it's still too hard. That will only frustrate her more. You'd be better off starting her off "too easy", and build a solid base. Then she might really take off and surprise youi with how quickly she comprehends the newer, harder stuff. Right now, I think my primary concern would be building self-confidence, over building math skills.

    math

That is what I think too but the dvd said to start 2 grades behind that would make her do 4th grade and be in 7th actually. That just seems so far behind.
