...And the headline on the 2nd day of school is:

"Teacher shoots student for throwing spit balls in class..." :?

Can we say old west. Why don't we just let them have a shoot out in a cleared street. I mean come on. I guess if the teachers have a firearm permit. But what to stop some big kid from taking the gun away from a teacher or fellow student. Did I read that right that they will allow students who have permits to bring guns as well? That's not school that is a battlefield in the making.

That is the worst thing I have heard today.

I mean what the heck are they thinking? I have met some teachers that I so would not trust to carry a gun around my child. I mean what happens when it is the teacher who goes nuts, and well the school let them take the gun in the classroom full of children.

Also the fact that students and teachers can carry is blowing my mind. I mean what is next?

The only place you see "Massacres" are "Gun Free Zones".

    Why is that?

Because those mental people don't want competition. They literally want to take out as many people as possible with little or no interference.

You never see shoot-outs, AKA "Old West", at the Shooting range or Gun Shows right?

    Why is that?

WOW! All those guns, and just by way of percentages, there must be SOME mental people there, eh? But never a shoot out at a gun show... hmmm....

These happen at Gun Free Zones....
Where they KNOW no one is packing...
Yet, where we NEED and Expect the MOST protection:
    Schools, Churches, Malls, workplaces....

The lady who watched her parents get shot dead in front of her face at the luby's masacre, here in Texas LAMENTS to this day that she followed the rules and left her gun in the pick up truck. She AD to, it was a "Gun Free Zone". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hennard

If ONE teacher had a gun, Licensed to carry a concealed handgun, at least the kids at Columbine would have had a chance. And to be licensed to carry you have to pass mental health checks, by the way. Unlike the mental cases who are ALWAYS packed and loaded.

The bad guys will ALWAYS have guns...
At least give law abiding people have the same chance to survive, when the bad guys go insane.

The article did NOT say that Students could carry guns as well.

    It says:
Recent school shootings in the United States have prompted some calls for school officials to allow students and teachers to carry legally concealed weapons into classrooms.

This means, Some people somewhere have mentioned it as one solution. Not that this school district has agreed to that.

    THANK YOU, JEN!!!

What would have happened at Columbine if one teacher had a gun? Do you think that teacher would have used it to help with the massacre, or would he have used it to defend his students and SAVE LIVES???

Criminals DO HAVE THE GUNS. No amount of laws in the world will change that.

BTW, students in my husband's district DO carry handguns. That's a fact. And short of searches daily of backpacks and handbags, nothing will stop that. I've my friend's high school daughters tell me that several of their friends carry because it's the only way they feel safe. No, I don't like it, but what realistically can you do about it?

Also, my husband says one of the first things he'll do on his first day at his new school is to go through the student parking lot and get a good feel for which cars probably have guns in the trunk "just in case" the need arises.....

How does he plan to determine that?

I am also VERY sad that it has come to this.

I would worry more about cars.
They kill more people than any gun ever did. Those cars in the parking lot are statistically more deadly than any gun a licensed and trained teacher would carry.

I want to say that I re-read my posts on this thread and I wanted to express that I think they came across very terse and heavy handed.

I apologize for that and I do not want anyone here to feel like they are being bullied with opinions.

So please forgive an old fool, if you were offended.
